missfire @ high revs after hitting the limiter.

    hi guys,

a couple of weeks ago i got a little splutter changing from 2nd the 3rd and then it was okay and has been okay until today. Going to japfest overtook a car and briefly hit the limiter then into 3rd got a big splutter and cleard itself again in a couple of seconds. On my way home from japfest i got a bit carried away and the same happened again but this time i had some white smoke comeout the back for a few seconds was a bit more limiter this time too.
Got home and took a look at the:-

plugs and all same colour, done about 2K max.
    Replaced the coilpacks.
compression test and all @ just over 9bar.
all the hoses were checked the other day as i had the mani off.

What else could it be, Only does it after limiter. Well thats the only time i have noticed.

Could it be oil from breather?
oil from tubby, ? Not that old gt28rs.

I just don't know got a RR day next weekend i think.

    Please help me. Jon

    How would they get weak?

You can change them with out the head off but you need an air cylinder connected to the spark plug hole and a special spring compressing tool.

i was thinking that but i don't want it to be an underlying problem for the rollers next weekend.

On a good note, For some reason unknown to me my car is going like stink tonight. Hopefully its not one of those "car running great before it went bang" moments

I have a head stripped from my old engine so might look into rebuilding it to a higher spec. Better springs, cams etc.

i just had another thought! my Gbox is fubared and making all sorts of weird and wonderful noises. Sometimes i the car pulls strongly and others its not so good. Could my box be loading up the engine i.e. going tight (after limitter rattlng it round a bit) and making it seem like a missfire/ hesitation?

Anyone had a box go tight on them?

A misfire is a misfire regardless of what load the gearbox may be placing on the engine.

Is hitting the limiter a bad thing then? I sometimes do it too but no misfire just a pop flame from behind and me being embarrassed. It gets through the rev's quicker than I can believe sometimes.

It's not the best thing in the world, as the ECU cuts the fuel. However I doubt it'll do anything bad if you do it once in a while.

is it possible for the box to load the engine up enough to cause damage to it though? or would it just break the box?

I thought it cut the ignition not the fuel hence flames from unburnt fuel

After hitting the limiter I have had this issue, turned out to be spark plugs, and yes they looked fine and had only been in 500 miles!

cool cheers Vez its an easy thing to do before going into depth. Better speak to bren tomorrow then. Motor world wanter to charge me £10 per plug for std plugs told them they were having a laugh. They offered to match what apex sell the BKR's for until i said how cheap we can get them for lol.

I have HD Stage 1 setup, the flames were probably due to letting off the gas and depressing the clutch and the atmospheric bov adding to the mix. Meh, need to stop doing it anyway.

RLTC - cuts the fuel as well, unless you get a different version which no one on here has.

That does NOT cause lean running though - as it cuts a sufficient amount of fuel so that no combustion event occurs
