Uprated S14a Brakes.

Hi guys,

I run 330mm 6 pots up front and need to beef up the rears to match (which are currently completely standard - in fact, the rear pads have never been changed and still have a fair bit of life in them)

Is there anything on offer or that can be put together?

AP 4 pots with 330 discs around £1500.

Youll need to do the S13/Z32 rear hub conversion to run those brakes.

Or you can just run a Z32 conversion.

Theres nothing off the shelf to bolt onto an S14 rear that I know of.

Whoa, 330mm 4 pots for the rears !!! Thats a bit overkill I think

Whats a Z32 conversion - something you can put together as a kit?

Its not something I can sell complete. I can supply reconditioned Z32 calipers, the special hoses, brake pads and a variety of discs

Youll need to source some S13/Z32 backing plates complete with handbrake assembly.

Bren, are the 355mm AP 6 pots the biggest kit you do for the front?
Hmm, imagine 355s on the fronts and 330s on the rears!

Im sure someone will do a bigger kit than 355s but thats approcaching the larest.

I wont need to imagine for much longer

The 355 front kit and 330 rear is around £3k. Ill look into larger than 355 if thats what youre after but theres no way youre going to need to go bigger

OK, let me know what you can get, and I'll look at getting the Z32 backing plates and handbrake assemblies.
Wouldn't 330mm 4 pots at the back seriously screw up the brake balance? Wouldn't a 2 pot 300mm be better?

Thats the only rear conversion I know of. Im assuming AP know what theyre doing but you might well have to fit a bias valve to get the balance correct

Bren, do you know if its just the backplate with the internal handbrake mechanisms I need for the conversion (plus handbrake cables)?
Is their anything else I need.
Theres a guy breaking an R33 GTS-T with the backplate available. Would this work instead of the Z32/S13?

I dont know the fulllist of parts but there are plenty of posts in the S14 tech section

As far as Im aware the Z32/S13/300ZX rear rakes are the same but Im not 100% on that.

A full set of R33 GTS brakes have just been sold that were on an S14a, so I'm assuming its gonna be OK.
Either way, I'm gonna be going the AP route front and Rear, 355 Fronts, 330 Rears. I'll get them to fit somehow

Car is going to Gary this weekend for some engine work, I'll have it back toward the end of the month, so will be looking at the brakes then.
If you're getting some kits in, keep a set for me (you can take deposit money off my card if you need to).

So the AP 6 pot calipers you run will work with bigger rotors?

Bren, can you look into bigger ones for me please? I think AP do a 362mm, but will they work with the calipers you sell, and can you get the appropriate bracket?

If you are going to Garys then ask him to show you our APs

356mm is the biggest AP kit for the 200. We cant just get a 360+mm discs and chuck a bracket in for it, the brackets would be custom made for that one unique kit, you cant just mix and match

The AP kit is £2086 and uses strap drive bells, our kit is 355mm, £1495 and uses solid type discs. AP swapped to strap drive as the Skylines (which is where the kits come from, they dont do a 200 kit) were causing problems with the solid mount type discs.

However we run the solid type 343mm discs on our S13 and havent had a hint of a problem because of the lower weight of the 200s. Thats why we do our kit with solid discs, its 600 quid cheaper.

Yeah the calipers are the same for the 330mm and the 356mm kits.

You just need to buy a set of bigger rotors and a new set of caliper brackets from AP

We dont use CP5555s with our kits

I dont see why we cant get the rotors, brackets and bells to suit your calipers but it may work out more economical to sell what you have and start again as I would assume we can only get the strap drive set ups and based on the price of the calipers alone Id expect youd be looking at around £1400 for the bells, brackets and rotors.

Ill get a defo price if youre interested
