    Hi

A 10w-50 is ideal for it.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx

The Nanodrive CFS is, on paper, the best oil available, but the Pro S and CFS are both really good oils, so all are good choices for your car.

    Cheers

Cool cheers. I think I still have a tub of the 10w-50 I got from you last time.

What about oil for a gearbox?

    Usual reconmended is 10-60

Surely this is too much for a car where the oil temp only just sees 100 odd

    Would u reconmend 5-50?

    Hi

You need a 75w-90 for the gearbox.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-...ion-fluid.aspx

If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Red Line MT90 and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Universal, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives.

    Cheers

    Hi

You could try a 5w-50, but the reason they recommend a 10w-60 is oil consumption, if you use something thinner, they tend to burn a lot. If you try a 5w-50 and it doesn't burn much, then it's probably the better option for day to day use in a M5.

    Hi,

Just after a bit of advice, need to get some new oil soon and will go for the gulf competition ester again, I have about 2 liters of this oil in the garage but its almost 2 years old, could this be used first and topped up with the newer stuff?

Also on a car that covers very little mileage a year would it still be best to change every 6 months even if the car only covers 1000 miles lets say?

    Hi

If the oil in the garage is still sealed, it will be fine. If it's been open for two years, it will have broken down a bit, so best used for top ups or use it something like one litre of old oil to 4L of new oil.

With that kind of use, annual changes are fine.

    Cheers

Which would you choose if it is simply a choice between Gulf Competition 10W 40 or Millers Oils CFS 10-40 competition (not the Nano) and no other ?

Both fully Ester synthetic, only pennies in it on price.

So which is better / which to choose ?

Car, S13, Stage 2, GT28R, daily driver with no drift or track stuff. 150K miles on chassis, 60K miles on engine since (proper) rebuild, rebore + new pistons and bearings all round. Well run in and relaxed, but not worn out.

PS. the "5L Fuchs Titan Race & get 1L Free" offer would be perfect if only a 10/40 was included, but I can't see one. Or am I missing something / the relevant listing for it ?

Nervous about going for a 5/40 with an even relatively modestly tuned S13, but not keen on going as far as a 10/50 over 10/40. Or is the difference between 40 and 50 not worth worrying about ?

PPS. Since posting I have ordered the Fuchs Titan as the offer is simply too good to miss.
I have ordered it in 10/50 flavour, but will ring to change it to 5/40 if you think that would be better for my car ?

Would still appreciate an answer to the original question btw, Gulf Comp vs Millers Comp, as there won't always be Titan on offer.....

    Thanks.

    Hi

Thanks for the order and the 10w-50 will be fine.

With Millers CFS vs Gulf Competition, toss a coin on it or go for the cheapest at the time, they are as good as each other.

    Cheers

I'm looking an oil for my daily drive. It's a 2001 Vauxhall omega. 2.2 still with 65000 miles on a standard tune. The car spends most of the time being driven shirt distances from cold only getting to normal running temp for a few minutes each journey. Should I change the recommended oil which I believe is a 10w40 semi to another grade or fully syn to help lubrication from cold.

    Thanks

    Hi

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic as that will flow better from cold.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

    Cheers

    Hi

Can you make a reccomendation for my s13? Stock CA18DET, 42,000 miles, Auto, Used for road driving only

I have some decent oil left off an old car, its 10w40 fully synthetic I think, will that be any good?

Also, how often should I change the oil in an unmodified S13, I had guessed every 3k or 6 month - thanks

    Hi

A decent synthetic 10w-40 should be ideal for that. How long the oil lasts depends on what it is really. A basic synthetic might need to be replaced at 3k/6 months, but good ones will last 10k or 12 months.

    Cheers

I checked last night and its actually 5w-40, will this still be okay? The oil is Millers Trident fully synthetic so hopefully its good stuff? thanks for your help!

    Hi

The Trident is Millers basic synthetic option, but it's decent stuff, so should be absolutely fine.
