Basingstoke was hell, none of the roads at all were gritted, I assumed by the time I got to the A339 it would be at least a little better than the backroads, nope I was wrong!

Theres no way I am even going to think about venturing back through Basingstoke and into Hook

Its wierd its very quiet round here as no one is on the roads.

So much for me not having to trek to the office

I managed to get here in just under 2 hours, and the amount of abandoned cars on the way is unbelievable! In a way I am glad I wasnt stuck on the main route out of Basingstoke last night.

This is what I woke up to this morning. (The only thing I had on me to show the depth of said snow)

And this is what happens when you are forced to go to work and should have stayed at home. Bloody curbs

1x Pikey fix later and it should hopefully hold it and stop it from getting any worse.

    Yesterday morning looked pretty nice

However, as Lum said, we went out for a little excursion last night:

The skies were clear and bright

    Some nice opportunities for pictures!

Took this of the road just before heading home, very gently. The giant orange glow is caused by Merthyr to the south, but there is no other light at all.

Has anyone actually seen any of these mythical gritters I keep hearing about?!?! Round here I've not seen one - seen a snow plough going through the village - not actually doing anything though

I've not seen one but the wife reckons she has. Not sure I believe her though. I think she was just trying to look big I've not even seen any evidence of them.

How long were those exposures nene?
What I thought was snow are stars.
It's a shame you couldn't have done a longer exposure and lengthened those trails

Nope.. feck all. But then TBH I've not been out on the roads a whole lot

They def haven't gritted any of the roads in or around Reading that I've seen anyway.

Can't get to work today I get on the train on a little branch line, and the trains broken down somewhere between here and the station I get my connecting train from

Going to have to get ready for work and sit here and hope they get it sorted soon.

    FFS snow.. feck off!!

Southampton is officially an ice rink today It's lethal! Managed to make it to work but I really hope it warms up before I leave, although watching everyone windmilling down the pavements is making the day more enjoyable

I had a gritter out side my house on Monday!

I live on an estate too and not a main route!

Guess we are spoilt due to the guy that organises the road gritting in Swansea living on my estate lol

If they did not grit the road however there would be no way to get out

Yeah we have seen very few around here, the other day Durham was just about cut off as it had compacted ice all over even around the hospital with no gritters in sight. Despite apparently them getting more money this year for this purpose.

A road close to us has just been the scene of an accident involving a bus. I noticed the road had not been gritted yesterday and police closed it today ... then as if by magic the 3 gritters went along it

Nene - Lovely pictures there, I keep meaning to get out and snap a few

Hope is wasn't serious - nothing like being reactive instead of proactive

So gritters are some sort of scavaging creatures that hide somewhere until there's an accident ? A bit like vultures ?
