Its not the gears that are weaker,there is a circlip that lets go causing 4th to slide right over 3rd.This can let go on a stock motor as well as a 420hp motor.It depends alot on the driver.My original clutch was replaced after 100,000 miles,handling 75% more power than stock,and was in great condition when it came out.Mechanical sympathy is a great asset.My motor is currently producing over 400hp,running 20psi through a standard bottom and covered well over 100,000 miles.So when a part fails,dont automatically assume it was a weak part.
In all fairness I have heard of clutch and gearbox failures before 20,000 miles,some guys are ham fisted I suppose
