You can't use PFTE hose with standard tails, it doesn't work with a clip as it's not flexible.
As above, you need PFTE hose really. Rubber hose suffers with modern fuels. :)
Could under bonnet temps be a result of the map as well, if it's not running as efficiently as it could that could be having an impact on things?

I can't see a problem with that, other than the lack of oil cooling.

I would say, if you want to make a nice trip of it, don't drive the entire length of the M4 if you do hit the Cotswolds. It's very possibly the most boring road in the world.
Something you can try is to do up the other nuts FT, some normal hex nuts, not more internal drive nuts.
