It's safe to assume that most people in the event of hitting a cyclist while driving, who realised what they had done, would stop, call the police, and stay on the scene. Not so for one young woman, who appears to have hit a cyclist, carried on driving, and then most bizarrely taken to Twitter to boast of the incident.

@emmaway20 Emma Way
Definitely knocked a cyclist off his bike earlier – I have right of way he doesn't even pay road tax! #bloodycyclists

Norwich Police responded quickly, asking Emma to get in touch with them as soon as possible, and report it, rather than broadcast it to the world.

Personally I've never had any issues with cyclists, they all tend to behave much better on the road than those driving.
I hope the police take her licence and give a suitable punishment.

Anyway the reason that had to go was practicality and the fact I can't afford 2 cars at the moment, so the 14 is being replaced with something practical, but I will still be able to enjoy (maybe not in the same way as the 14)

The criteria:

Preferably 4 door, atleast 30mpg (less for a really nice car), manual (again unless the car is to nice to worry about that) and within budget of £5k.

Ideas please!!

I know there is a millions threads like this but im guessing cars are falling in my budget that I haven't realised..

Thanks

Hey Guys,

This is something a bit different for you to have a look at! Its something i have been working on and put together on another forum.

I Recently picked up my e55 for pretty good price, been looking for one for a wee while as a project / weekend cruiser / track toy.

For those of you that do not know what it is - 5.5Litre V8 with 350bhp. Full exhaust, manifolds and a remap can see up to 420bhp!

Its Crazy fast for the size of it, run a 14.08 on the 1/4 mile with crappy tyres!. Comes with Bilstein springs and shocks, big brakes etc from factory.

Not got any clean shiny pics yet but it looks a bit like this-

The water pump bearing died last weekend so purchased a replacement to fit but like most jobs it has grown arms and legs!.

I was quite surprised at the size of the beast!. Only really changed water pumps in k series rovers / b series Hondas and this is massive in comparison!.

The before pic with engine cover removed - engine bay requires a great deal of TLC!

Started to remove the old pump and unfortunately a few of the bolts sheered. I think water had been seeping past the gasket and corroded the bolts. Need to drill out and try a stud extractor on them - this requires removal of the radiators. Noticed my transmission cooler hose that heads along the bottom of the radiator is very rusty so I have decided to replace it!.

Will most likely drill things next weekend when I have some good quality drill bits, tomorrows job - give the engine bay some TLC, while its all stripped out and can clean up some rusty bits and give them some new paint to ensure its solid for a few more years!

A quick shot of the interior - quite rare options with the leather stitched dashboard, doorcards and red seats. It doesn't look the best in pics, much more vibrant red in real life. Makes it feel quite modern inside.

This was a very expensive car from new, it also has:
Bose Sound System
Rain Sensitive Wipers
Parking Sensors
Rear Electric Sun Blind
Heated front AND Rear Seats.

Refitted the water pump. Cleaned up the mess of gasket sealant after i took this photo.

I opted not to use the gasket that came with the pump as it fell to bits! Used a product called "Proseal Copper XS High Temp" as its hardcore. One of my mates uses it for everything on his 500bhp RX7 and swears by it

Also rubbed down the corrosion on my transmission cooler pipes and was pleased to find them in useable condition. Primed and painted them as well as the radiator cross member. Should keep them solid for a few more years!.

Decided not to re-fit the air conditioning condenser as it had a hole in it!. May purchase a new one in the future but i am not fussed for now, don't really need it in Scotland!

Did discover something bad! - a hole in my driver side inner wing

On a more positive note i have been tyre shopping. As i intend to take this car to the track in the summer i have been in search of decent rubber. Have purchased some Federal 595 RSRs for this purpose!. I hope the combination of the standard AMG suspension and these tyres will help the car hold the tarmac well!

Car has been to the fabricators, we stripped the front end down and discovered this

There was some on the other side but nowhere near as bad!

On with the repairs! (this took a while)

Old arch totally removed and nice new one fabricated

Primer (red oxide and etch i believe to stop rust in the future)

Paint

Small amount of repair work on the other inner wing also got the same treatment! - Under-seal after the paint was applied in the wheel arch of course!. The works were carried out by a very skilled crowd know as "Chizfab" based in lochgelly, fife.

After this i took the car home and performed some troubleshooting on an audible rumble under load. I discovered the propshaft carrier bearing was knackered so set off to the dealer for a new one.

I discovered my car was specially ordered, it has its own unique product code on the Mercedes system. Explains all the options!

Leave the exhaust as std (apart from decat) then go ahead with other upgrades ie boost controller and ecu upgrades? soarer tt to be specific.
The price of exhausts for soarer are putting me off, also lack of s/h items
But does anyone know of any reputable companies that can remap it for a sensible cost? Ideally a company that someone has experience with using? I know it will never pull high bhp figures, I'm not silly... but a torque increase would be nice, even if not a lot.

Cheers
