I'll be going to watch, still need more practice until i get on the track again. Thats gutting about the twin drift though, its always so exciting to watch. :(

I'll be there.

One suggestion, since there is no twin drift i think there should be a better "cut" for the competition. Straight to 6 or 8 drivers is a bit of a big chop i think, so id suggest a "Best 16" for the first cut? I guess if there isnt enough entries in the each class it wont be applicable but id of thought there would be enough entries to have a "Best 16"?

Thanks

Paz

I'll be there to spectate. Doubt I'll be entering UKD1 until next year, going to need a lot of practice!

I'll be competing.

The way the comp is run needs to be changed I think, a championship for the clubman class would be nice.

The 'cut' could be 50% of each class, wont matter how many entrants there are then.

Oh, and I'll be there to watch Matt make a complete arse of himself in front of 300 people;) (fingers crossed he doesnt do better than me or I'll never live it down).:D

I think a clubman Championship would be a good idea and the top 5 (maybe less depends on skill as i haven't seen the standard)

get placed in the Pro level the year after,

i don't think winning 1 round should count as entry the the higher level,

this would also make it worth competeing every round not just doin one off events,

think it would create more professionalism (why ain't their a spell check!)

think i'm gona leave it to 2005, due to NO practice at all coz i always have something broken or can afford the practice session :(

although i might try to make the august one,

I so desperately want to come, but I'm a bit short on the old moolah, and there's no way I can get transport for the Senator sorted out by then.

Maybe I'll come in the Beemer again, but the open diff is so depressing.

If I can tie down Cas to fix my car then I'll be at Silverstone for round 3. Can't wait too, having missed previous rounds with financial and car problems I'll be gutted if I miss this one.
I've even got a gimpsuit that fits me :smash:

Yes you can join in anytime. Just fill in a form at www.ukd1.com and send off with payment or you can enter on the day, but costs more!

Assuming my car makes it through its MOT and a bit of work it needs (and doesn't bankrupt me in the process), I'll send off an entry.

I will also enter this event, this will be my 1st attempt cus Andover was cancelled in June.

Q. Spares like trolley jack, spanners, tyres etc, where are these kept whilst you are out on the track?

Reason I ask is cus I won't have a service crew or 2nd car to store them. Also is this event suitable for a novice (I'll book up regardless).

Cheers in adv.

We "the entrants" get the pitlane to keep all our tools and crap in. The punters get access but only at the end of the day, so have em tidied up just before the presentation. Bring a plastic box though in case it rains to put it all in if you can.

No problems at all as everyone knows everyone, by the way who borrowed :D my long handled wheel extension as I lost it last time?? only old rusty one but it was handy, I might have left it there anyway.

Yeah it'd be great to get some new blood in the fold. Chris & Rob you should show us how it should be done, in a difficult car, just get some crappy rear tyres, that'll help ;)

Spares? I need spares?! I was just going to turn up with the car, my racesuit and a helmet (and maybe a pair of racing gloves)!

Is there anything small it would be wise for me to take in the way of spares/tools? I won't be changing tyres/wheels. It's only a few short runs, right? If they're short enough then I won't get enough heat building up to cause much wear. Perhaps I should take a hoover for removing all the gravel trap stones from my sills and undertray...

I'll be on my brand new road Advan Neovas at the rear - just a bad timing thing really. Assuming we're using the same corners as the Autocar Sideways Challenge does (I spectated last year's Sideways Challenge), I doubt I'll need crappy tyres to go sideways on. There's a run up into most of the corners, and they should be fast enough to suit the Elise well.

Sending off my entry today, and getting excited already :)

Advan Neovas

How/where?! Last i heard the Neova is Japan Only.

PhilMorrison
03-07-2004, 12:38
CMU, you 'should' be alright on the one set of tyres with the elise, I used 4 tyres at the last round tho :indiff: I'm also interested to know how you've got Neova's

tee, we usually leave Kings Heath at about 7am, if you want to convoy with us then no probs, depends if you want to leav that early tho :)

CMU
03-07-2004, 14:09
How/where?! Last i heard the Neova is Japan Only.

Lotus and Yokohama developed the LTS compound for the Neova together, specially for the S1 Elise. You can only get them through Lotus dealers and a very few choice specialists, and in Elise sizes only, and in the Lotus compound only (so the full name is Yokohama Advan Neova LTS). The LTS compound is brilliant on an Elise with incredible grip both wet and dry, and excellent progressiveness, but is probably too soft for heavier cars. They're very popular on S1 Elises that get used as road cars that have to cope with wet, dry and track conditions frequently.

This all happened because Pirelli stopped making the original fitment PZeros in appropriate Elise sizes, and the dealers had to have something for the folks who came in needing new road tyres.

I use the brilliant Lotus specialist, Sinclaire of London in Romford - www.lotusrepairs.com - for all my servicing, repairs and tyre needs. Can't beat their service and pricing anywhere.

The tread pattern looks ace too :D

PazzaAE86
03-07-2004, 14:39
Yeah, that tread pattern is exactly the same as the Japan Only Neova, i guess the only/main differance is the compound of the tyre? The Advan Neova is one of the most popular tyres for drift in Japan, used often for both front and rear and are said to give high grip levels but remarkably are very compliant for drift. What size is Lotus size just out of interest?

Thanks!

Paz

CMU
03-07-2004, 14:58
Some people call them snappy on the Elise, but they're the exact opposite. They're so progressive that people who aren't used to sliding them don't even notice the start of the slide. They only spot it when it's got to a point where it's all happening fast and is harder to recover. Hence they crash, and say it unexpectedly snapped. Anyhow, I digress...

I use them front and rear on my car. Anything else would upset the ballance which would be A Bad Thing for day to day use. The sizes are:

Front: 195 50 R15
Rear: 225 45 R16

The best bit about them is their ability to do everything pretty well. I can have a fun Saturday blat in the dry on the roads, then do a trackday event where they get very hot in several sessions on Sunday, then drive to work on Monday in a thunderstorm on day in safety. They get better with each heat-cycle, and they're happy with everyday road use. I don't even bother to adjust the pressures for drifting/track/road - they just take it happily, whatever the conditions.

CMU

www.ukd1.com - all the details are there. I think it's a tenner to spectate, and the action will be kicking off around 9pm if you want to catch the practice runs.
