A couple of my mates were on thier way up to oxford last week to pick up another Golf VR6 Highline (180bhp and not slow!) mooting along the motorway pretty quickly when they pass an S14, standard looking, old bloke driving, suit jcket hanging in the back...

S14 catches them up, then just leaves them for dust! :) 'It was like we had just stopped!!!' :D they then watched it pace a 911 till that pulled in and let it pass... :)

these guys are always so impressed with 200's but for some gay reaon insist on buying VAG cars...

VR6's in a mk3 golf are ok

it's when you put them in a mk2 that they really fly ;)

and 180bhp is nothing too special, even my (for sale) mk2 has 180 bhp :D

Lotus Sunbeam was awesome, remember getting utterly destroyed by one when I was driving my beemer and I didn't know what it was...

My face was a picture according to my passenger at the time... (the bastard knew what it was as well and was waiting to laugh at me)

180 isnt amazing, but it is a totally standard car :) what have you done to your MK2??? the guy with the VR6 also has a litle MK2 with the TSR 2l converson :)

and when you wedge the VR6 lump into a MK1 chassis now, thats when they fly!! A guy on the GTR forum owns the TSR MK1 VR6 drag car (as well as the VR6 Polo:) )

Lotus Sunbeam and Lotus Carlton, two cars that id love to have in my dream garage....

Could be any of the s14 crew :D ;)

How did Lotus sunbeam get brought into this? Regardless they are the daddies and a hot hatch with turbo RWD 150bhp (IIRC) back in the 80's is the stuff that dreams are made of. I used to pass (going the other way) a bloke in a orange rally style one which he used as his daily runner to work etc :notworthy

What they lack in standard power the make up in other manly aspects - RWD and turbo.

only trouble with mk2 golfs is that they are not very strong :

no old car is strong - i've seen enough mk2 golf crashes to know that i would be just as pissed off at being in an accident in one as i would in pretty much any other car (prefer to avoid the accident ;))

mine has a few little mods - have listed the full spec in the thread in For Sale:

Mk2 golfs are pritty strong especially for an old car, and it was on its roof, so what do you expect

Lotus Sunbeams rule, but the best Golf I ever saw was a Mk1 with a mid-mounted (not sure if it was turbo'd or not) VR6 :smitten:

It was fooking mental, the engine was not covered at all and the back floor was also cut away for the engine so there was just a big hole behind the seats :wack: :smash:

Also whoever built the car had kindly fitted an Autometer Monster tacho in the passenger side dash for the benefit of anybody insane enough to ride in the thing

by the time he was 19 it got mag featured, and it was a 3 litre VR6 mk1, with 4wd....
