My diff is out and having the cusco one put in, or so I thought!! I have had a call to say that it doesn't fit, and there is going to have to be some machining done to crown wheel

The bloke doing it is a pro, but cant do it in house. He didn't seem that alarmed on the answering machine msg I got, but I dont know what exactly needs doing, he said it is obvious when you see it.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this i'm getting a little stressed :( as it took months to get this diff, and this sounds v-dodgey!! I've checked all the paper work and it all appears to be the correct diff for the S13.

Any advice would be a god send

Cheers.

Ive put the question to some people who know alot more about S13 LSD's than me... Hope they can help, if they get back to me i'll let you know mate. Maybe best to tell your mechanic to hang fire on chopping something off your LSD?

All the best..

Paz

If he can't do it give us a shout, a colleage at work (he builds motorbike race engines for a bike racing team, works on turbos, and has a full machining facilities at home, he even made me the tools Nissan use for fitting the diff!) fitted my Nismo S14 diff into the diff housing, shimmed it up checked clearances, backlash etc.

You shouldn't need to chop anything if its the correct diff for your car!

Been for a look today, and after a bit of messing about the problem seems to be that the diff once the crown wheel is attatched is getting wedged between the main casing and the pinion so it will not sit down in to place in the correct manor!?? By looking at the new and old diffs together it now seems to be fixable by simply removing metal from the main diff casing.
This will not involve the new diff or crown wheel, so I'm not as worried, if this isn't it nothing will be buggered if I need to get the old diff back in.
I dont find out if its sorted now till monday more than likely:(. But is there anyone out there who has heard of any such problems with cusco diffs?????

Are you sure its not a shimming / clearance problem on the pinion side?

I'm sure its not shimming, as it's the gap between the pinion and the outer casing is to small when you try to insert the crown wheel diff assembled, it to much to be the pinion shimming but I think he's going to find a balance bnetween dropping the pinion and removing metal. Fairly glad it didn't turn out to be shimming as it would of worried me about the bloke doing the work!! Spoke to him again last night and he cant see a problem in finishing it, but it is me so anything could happen.
