View Full Version : Insurance observations
I carried on with my previous insurer when I got rid of my allegedly "hot" (speedy rather than stolen of course) Volvo 440 turbo...and I'm coming up for renewal now. Shopping around on the net I tried the AA website...they like you to be very specific as to occupation. Sadly for my sins I work for the Beeb and when I told the tick-box that it quoted me £1,300 INCLUDING my 4 years NCB.....if I was not specific as to my employer it was down to £432!!!! BUT.....have a shot at Eagle Star. They know who...er whom...I work for and are quoting a measly £376 and that includes basic Green Flag.

Interesting.
I find it bizarre that parking my car in a garage or on the road makes about £7.50 difference whilst, I had never thought that occupation would make that much difference (obviously unless you are Motor trade etc).
Perhaps if I was something other than IT related I'd get cheaper insurance. I'm looking at £600 with 4 years NCB, maybe I should be say im a newsagent like my Pop.

Tell me about it. I sit at a desk all day writing code, drive just over a mile to work each morning, and back each evening, and yet because I work in IT, I get higher insurance.
What gives ? Maybe they think I'm more likely to have a heart attack whilst driving ??
Grrrrr...

I just tried numerous combinations of job, and alarm etc on Eagle Star, I even tried the 'I work for the BEEB trick' and the cheapest I could get was £901 with 4 yr NCB, 28 yrs old, professional quals, and only 3 points (got caught doing 99.74mph, too sodding close), no accidents. Can get it from Direct line for about 700 tpft or a bit less from ensliegh as I work in a University & they give cash off for Uni staff & students.
Even still 3-400 sounds like my kind of insurance.
Did nearly buy a Supra though, only reason I didn't is 'cos my present insurer wouldn't transfer my policy to Supra.
I have a justified reason for nearly buying a Supra, I hadn't got a car and it was cheap, fast & nasty, abit like amphetamine I suppose.
