Hi guys,

My girlfriend is having some off problems with her nova (I know I know). It starts, really lumpy idle then just dies unless she keeps her foot on the accelerator. It died again this morning. It works again after a couple of minutes, but it's hit and miss as to whether it will stay running reliably enough to get her whereever shes going. Any ideas what might be wrong??? G reg, Manual Choke, Carb based. Or anyone know any garages in Colchester I could take it to??

Yeah,

I've changed the dizzy cap / rotor arm, checked the ht leads for cracks (but not replaced). I havent changed the plugs yet. I suppose I should have checked them really. Prolly destroyed!!! I'll check them later I reckon :)

Cheers for the reply. Any other ideas if not these?

Sort of sounds like a fuel problem. Blockage in the fuel pipes or carb jets, fuel pump knackered, diaphragm in carb split, leak on any of the intake gaskets.

Right, racing with the daylight, I took out a spark plug and it's black as hell!!! Looks like she's flooded it in the past and I havent cleaned the plugs. Im suprised theres any spark at all. I'll change the plugs tomorrow or the day after. Fingers crossed.
