View Full Version : what's going on with porsche styling?
am i the only one here to think the new '997' 911 looks like a beetle that has been sat on by a fat bloke (possibly myself :wack: ) from the front.
if you look at the shutline of the bonnet it appears to be smiling as well and that's just wrong. if i'm coming up behind someone on the (private) motorway at 150 leptons i want my car to be saying 'move  ' rather than 'hiya  :ghey:'
the new boxster looks more like an mr2 than the mr2 looks like an old boxster :wack:
and don't get me started on the cayenne :hurl:
i am in no doubt that these things will handle tremendously and be as fast as flip but frankly it doesn't take much more effort to make a car look nice too.
sort it out porsche

totally agree especially with the MR2 comment :D but i think that is a good thing the boxters are nice cars :D
all 911 look  apart from one RUF pic i seen with a massice spoiler
nothing wrong with Porsche styling at all. And their sales figures and annual accounts back that up. Think the 997 looks good, I'd love one

All that proves is lots of people have really bad taste :wack:

Yeah, but an accountant would love you if you look at the residuals on a Boxter.
I'd never buy one, they are designed by space aliens :hurl: , but they do have there plus points.

The 997 is the first 911 for ages that actually looks like a 911. All it needs now is a proper air-cooled engine
The Cayenne makes a statement.
The fact that the statement is I have too much money and absolutely no taste is irrelevant :D

997 looks like what the 996 should have done, i.e. an updated 993.
It looks bloody gorgeous!
997 :smitten: That is how Porsche should look. Much better than the last few attempts at the 911 with the funny front lights.
The Cayenne is just wrong and probably thought up but marketing types coz they new theycould sell it to moms with too much money and not enough sence. :smash: :whip:
Not so sure about the 997 styling too...the 993 deffo my favourite.
As for the smiley face, looking back at previous models, its a 'feature' :wack:, especially those models from the 80's with the big, sticky out bumper.

I think the overall shape is excellent, however the shut lines are all wrong and contrive to visually raise the lower parts of the car. Hence the 'beetle' comment, I think.
Also the bonnet shut line is all wrong (should come down to meet a shut line above the bumper and have square corners). Bonnet is too wide also and forces fuel filler down front wing when it should be on top.
The rear window should follow on from the gutter lines in the roof, at the moment there is a funny 'step' when view from the rear 3/4. The headlight surrounds should be mounted upside down with the headlight washers incorporated in the wider rim.
Other than that I quite like it. :D
I'd still have one though! (In black) ;)

I know why the Cayenne looks like it does. As we know all cars designers get their inspiration from things they see. The Cayenne designer saw a pile of sh1t
I prefer the 997's round lights to the 996's.
I don't care what you say about Porsche, they are all better than Chris Bangle's recent efforts :p

fk me. that's a scary thought... imagine bangle being recruited by porsche as their chief designer.

They've just recruited the top stylist from Saab. Something to look forward to I think because modern Saabs are really stylish :indiff:

I like it. I reckon it would look even better in a metallic colour.

only thing i'd change is the front needs to be 'deeper' and give it some rear haunches to make it look more muscular a la mid-90s TVR, _classic_ ferraris (eg 250gto) or pretty much any jaguar.

Lovely car - but I agree with Geraint about the rear quarter - perhaps if the rear window started on the intersect with the B pillar? (probably a good engineering reason why it can't!) I still prefer the '70s style ones - sad aren't I!
