Hello,

Mate at work's Saxo has a problem with its indicator stalk.

He is unable to indicate properly, when he wants to indicate left - it will not push down into its slot. He has to hold it there for it to indicate. A similar problem happens when trying to indicate right. The stalk will not push up unless he wiggles it for a few seconds before pushing it up.

He also saw a waft of smoke come from the steering column shroud.

Any ideas what is wrong with it?

A pretty serious wiring fault coupled with the automatic reset prongs being wonky :wack: Personally I wouldn't drive it if there's smoke coming from the steering column, I'd disconnect the battery and get it fixed.

I had a mk3 golf that had a similar problem with the wiper stalk where wisps of smoke would emerge every now and again. When I took it apart it was a short that was burning the plastic at the base of the stalk. I just got a second hand stalk from the scrap yard and it never did it again.

That must be whats wrong with the foglight switch on all other saxos as the fecking things are never off!
