Tried Super Unleaded when I was in France at the weekend cos I couldn't get the ordinary stuff. Didn't notice any difference to performance.

super unleaded has a higher octane rating than normal unleaded.

this means that it ignites at a higher temperature, which means the you are less likely to get detonation.

this also means that you can run higher boost, because the hotter air from more boost will not induce detonation due to low octane...

I've just put £10 worth of premium unleaded in my s13 (into an empty tank)and it now runs like a bag of **** http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif. It's noticeably slower accelerating and I now have a flat spot at 2500rpm. I only put it in cos its 7p a litre cheaper, but I'll just pay the extra next time!

I swear by super. Normal unleaded costs about 30bhp I reckon.

I'd have to argue about the detonation stuff though, since mine has just melted 2 NGK 8's and done something else too (holed/melted a piston I think!!)
