Just how the hell do you replace the CV gaiter on a clio???
1.4 RT to be preicse, i thought it would be the usual pop boot off, pop circlip slide shaft into box a bit, hub and joint fall off, new boot re-assemble bobs your mothers sisters husband.
But i must say, is it f@#k.
So chris or other guru's on french rubbish, how exactly do i do it?
It's Near side, if that makes any difference. I have no skin left on most of my knuckles, something i'm sure MattJ can relate too. :D
Cheers

And now i wish i hadn't, bloody french rubbish crap bum flaps.
Remove the drive shaft, why!!!!!!
Then it mentions creepy crawlies or something and these spiders have bearings, which i must admit i'd never spotted before.
I HATE FRENCH CARS!!!!!
have a looksy here, I'd imagine they'd be the same idea as a citroen :)

If I remember correctly, remove drive shaft, remove spider (innerhalf of CV joint) from gearbox end (its on splines and theres a circlip) put boot on from that end - assemble in reverse order (Haynes tm)
This was on some french shite - Citroen or Renault 19.............
Hope this helps
you can make the gater a bit stetchy by heating it up and then just force it over the front end of the Driveshaft

Job jobbed, several cuts later goes something along the lines of.
Undo Hub nut, this took 20 mins of bouncing with a 6ft breaker bar before it let go, undo 2 strut to hub nuts, undo 2 bolts on drive shaft gearbox seal, remove drive shaft from gearbox, wiggle furiously till the bloody thing falls out.
This bit from the haynes book of myths and lies made me laugh, gently prise the 3 arms of the spider from the locating lugs on the solid bit of the CV joint (i forget the technical term) and by gently it meant, welt it with a big hammer and your most buggered screwdriver.
Collect associated bit's that fly off, heat boot in hot water and using a special renault tool slide the boot on over the bit that's too thick for the boot. Alternatively stick your fingers in the boot and pull like all hell till it's wide enough to slide on, and get it on before your fingers give out.
Re-assemble in reverse order to above, not forgetting the 3 legged spider malarky, what a complete pain in the arse job for something which could have been designed alot more simply.
Even ford and vauxhall managed to make it easier than that. French toss bags.

Sounds like they've gone worse with time, rather than better :(
I sometimes think that car manufacturers design things to be difficult to maintain on purpose - take the Vauxhall 30 minute clutch change, whatever happened to that!
Yep, the more it costs to maintaine a car the more it looks a better option to buy a new one rather and repair and old. Car makes aint stupid ya know. They dont get owt for cars that last for ages as the people who have the old cars aint the ones who buy cars from them.
