Hey guys, I've been looking at the forums for some time and know this place is notorious for Corolla GT coupe's going up for sale. I currently have a budget of around £3000 and am looking to buy the next road worthy one that comes along with an actual interior and lack of rust on the body work. If anyone knows of any about the place please drop me a PM.
Thanks very much

I'm going to look at an AE86 on friday. I would like some advice on various things to look at when I go also the best to go about checking if its not a cut and shut or stolen. They have 2 available. One is an 'A' Reg the other is 'E'. Surely an 'A' reg is the earlier model (AE85?) since the registration took place between 01 August 1983 and 31 July 1984? Am I making the right decision here? I don't want to end up with a SOHC junker
Thanks for any advice given.

I'd highly doubt its an AE85, i doubt theres many of them here. Just check its got a 4-age with the twin can and tvis to know its an AE86. Other than that i don't know too much, only that like the old AW11 i used to have that they go very very rusty. :(

Surely if its an A-reg it must have a SOHC? as the DOHC only came about just after 1985

ae86's are bloody rare,

i spotted this trueno ae86 coupe for sale, looks a right minter, buts it in japan and for £5500 !

for a true drifting nut looking for a minter it would probably be a dream come true,

5500, ouch,i can't even afford 1000!

That would probably be the best thing about bying into an AE86. It would seem likely you would your money back in the end, if you ever wish to sell it.

Mine was an A reg 1984 and I am very certain it was a 4AG :) .... you won't find any 85's over here... I'm sure of it.

The only Corolla I can see it getting confused with is a FWD version the Corolla GL, looks similar but underneath will be very different

I may have you mixed up, but im sure we spoke about this whole "AE85" malarky on E-mail or PM before? There is no such thing as an AE85 in the UK, nor the SOHC engine in them. The AE85 was only made available to Japan (and possibly HK?) but the US never got an AE85, and neither did the UK and Europe. So im not sure where you have the SOHC idea from but youve no need to worry about it. Anyway, i know both the cars and yes, they are both AE86's complete with 4AGE engines.

Just look for rust mainly, everything else can be replaced but a good shell is key. Expect some rust, its un-avoidable so dont be put off by a patch here and there.. Just be carefull because if you can flintstone your feet through the floor pan then you know you shouldnt buy it.. haha.
