While we're waiting for Alfred Hitchcock to break the suspense: My no.1 lady friend got stopped for speeding in Darlington the other day. 35 in a 30 area. Copper insisted on doing her. She's in court on 12 March - conviction will take her to 12 points!

Right yeah so

I was driving a mate back into Preston, and I'm heading along on the main road in, not by the docks, but the other main road.

I'm going a liiiiitle bit fast as well, and have just overtaken someone, and gone over a bump and got the exhaust scraping away.

Then a car flashes me. Oops, it's blue flashing lights, it's a cop! ick ick.

Pull over, turn the radio on for passenger and get out of car to greet policeman.

Policeman is already out of his car and heading STRAIGHT FOR ... THE EXHAUST.

he shouts out, "you alright mate" in a rather jovial manner before pointing and kicking the Hiper Muffler tip a bit.

Asks me if I know it's sparking away like a roman candle! Said I could hear it scraping now and then..

Informs me if it fell off, it could kill a motorcyclist.. I actually had to surpress instinctive laughter at that comment and said "oh, I see" instead.

Asks me if it's going to fall off! I say no, one hanger snapped because another is rattling loose, but it's held in ok.

Asks me to take 'care' of it.. Told him I have parts on order for next tuesday.

Says ok, gives advice, gets in car and so do I. Set off in shock/disbelief about why I was actually stopped.

100 metres down the road, I see I'm STILL doing 5mph over the limit despite him being behind me. Doesn't matter, coz he overtakes me at some speed anyway!

Thought it was rather a funky stop... Wish more coppers were like that, actually showing corcern towards the car's condition and not it's speed!!
