My PC monitor just blew up!
I've just been reduced from a lurvelly 21" monitor running at 1600x1200 to a 12 year old 14" monitor that can't even run 800x600 :wack:
Luckily I have the old laptop I'm now useing which has a decent enough screen on it (well, it's bigger than the pc's now at anyrate :smash: )
To add insult to injury I've discovered while typing this that the keyboard is set to US and my windows disc is at work :annoyed:
Gah! And I think I've caught aitchitis to boot, I just got a shock from the network cable :(
Can anyone suggest a good but cheap monitor for if I can't fix mine?
why do these things always happen when you can least afford them

For what it's worth, the 21" Sony monitor from a SUN workstation I'm looking at cost £150 second hand and it's still perfect despite being 5 years old, so maybe a used bargain (e.g. off Ebay) could make sense.
Actually, there's a 21" Eizo there for £69

(Eizo are generally the best manufacturer of CRTs)
Then there's this one, currently at £11.50 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3696&item=5104183238&rd=1

Really? hows it compare to Mitsi Diamond Pro's?
Mine was one of the vertical flat jobs, best picture I've ever seen
Don't 'spose they do some that are comparable do they?

From what I could remember, Eizo's 21" were £1200 when all other 21" were £500. I think there are only 3 tube manufacturers in the world so they may have the same tube as a Sony/Mitsubishi, but the electronics strapped onto them can be better. A top-of the range 21" Eizo should be better than any Sony, Mitsubishi, Adi etc (provided it's not faulty).
Guess you can spot how high the model ranks by its refresh rate at 1600x1200.
The 3 Eizos I have are great, (including the 20-year old 16" multisync one I use to run the games consoles & arcade games off )
Edit: Actually, there's some dirt-cheap monitors from other manufacturers on there too

Think I need to invest in a second graphics card :D

Cool! I'll bear that in mind
Hopefully I can fix mine though as I can't really afford to go shopping - even at those prices :(

Well, in typical bloke fashion I have listened to the advice given above.
Considered it carefully,
And then bought a Philips one! :wack:
To expand on that I've now got a 22" 202p4 which appears to be the top of the range model :D
Totally flat screen, better quality than the Mitsi.
Oh, and it'll run 1600x1200 @ 100hz easy
Considering it only cost me £100 through one of our suppliers at work I'm chuffed
Now I'm off to play some games! :smash:
