thinking of getting broadband with bt, because they just cut price for £40 to £30 per month. does anyone have broadband with bt? i use morpheus alot to download mp3's and even download games. some of the games i've downloaded have taken around 21 hours!!!! i only get about 4-5kbs at the moment, what download speeds do you get with broadband? i would be getting the basic 512kbs per second conection. or is it not worth it and all hype over nothing? thanks.....rob

If you are looking for good pings for games, forget BT, a friend uses Nildram and gets pings between 5 and 30! I can't have broadband and my pings are usually around 250 :(

If you dont play online games like Quake and Unreal then you probably wont care. A ping is a transmission delay in milliseconds. So if I have a ping of 250, it means that there is a delay of quarter of a second between when an enemy comes into view and when I actually see him. This is a suprisingly long amount of time :o
As far as download speeds go, I should think BT is as good as anyone.
Ive got bb and it rocks :) I got it last week and its oh so much better than your poxy modem users ;) :p
How do I test my ping?

Ping varies depending on what server you connect to. Things like physical distance, number of 'hops' (via other servers), speed of your connection and how busy the server(s) are all make a difference.
I'm no expert, the only time I've seen my ping is when I've played Unreal Tournament. Press F6 during the game for a more accurate figure than you get on the scoreboard.
If you don't have a game like this then there is a program called 'tracert' I think.

Pings are also dependant on the Network of the Carrier, ATM, Frame Relay etc and what latency they get. However most carriers are now using ATM which offers low latency.

Open a dos prompt??? Step by step needed here lads :D
Firstly, find the ip address of a gameserver.(To do this go somewhere like Quakeworld)
At a DOS prompt type: PING <IP ADDRESS>
The time in ms is your ping delay.
I've got ADSL from BT, I think it is very dependant on which Home Gateway you are connected to. Initially, b4 BT locked down their network, you could jump from gateway to gateway, which depending on which one you picked, could drastically improve your connection. Great for downloads though.
