I have a scanner program which only wants to work when I'm logged in as an administrator. I cannot get it to work on my normal user login.
Does anyone know how to change the user privilidges for individual apps? I'm sure I had to do it before but can't remember how I did it.
Thanks if you can help ;)

You could try lophtcrack to get the admin password.
Jezz.
NOT A FAN OF WIN2K AT THE MO. PROGRAM INCOMPATIBILITY SEEMS TO BE GROWING.
ANYWAY MAKE SURE YOU INSTALLED THE SOFTWARE UNDER THE ADMIN PASSWORD AND THAT YOUR OTHER USERS ARE SET UP TO USE ALL SOFTWARE. IF THIS FAILS THEN INSTALL THE SOFTWARE UNDER THE SPECIFIC USER YOU WANT TO USE AND SEE HOW THAT GOES, ASSUMING THAT USER WILL HAVE ACCESS TO BE ABLE TO INSTALL PROGRAMS.
FAILING THAT I COULD ALWAYS B**N YOU A COPY OF WINXP WITH ALL THE MUNKROSOFT REGISTRATION ETC FEATURES DISABLED. NICE

Thanks I'll try installing the software under the user account and see if it works.
Failing that I can always run it as the Administrator, but I just can't see why it won't work. I've had a quick look at the system policies and all that stuff but it looks a bit complex...

Try holding down shift and right clicking on the programs shortcut, you should get a 'run as' function in the dialogue box. You can then set it run under the admin profile.

Papa,
Do what Dave said and use the RunAS Service.
Alternatively, download NT Filemon and NT Regmon from http://www.sysinternals.com.
Add a Filter for *denied, this will show you any access is denied error messages. Free up the permissions on these files/folders and/or registry keys, et viola your program will work. It could be attempting to modify some registry info that it doesn't have access to, or write a temp file to a dir that it isn't allowed to.
PS, if you can't run these since you need admin rights, schedule them, so they run in the system context. EG at 10:00 /interactive regmon.exe && at 10:01 /interactive filemon.exe
You will need to start the schedule service before you can run AT or Soon though.
Hope this helps,
Or you could mess about with the groups, and put your user account into the "local administrator" group
Thats what I do anyway :)
