I have just rebuilt my PC. It has gone from a 1.5gb hard drive to 40Gb, Processor and board is up from 133mhz to 800Mhz and stacks more memory. I have kept the old 1.5Gb hard drive and put it in as a slave.

Now for the question. I had been using outlook express for reading my emails. I have a newly installed Win 98 on my new hard drive. the old one was win 95. Inside the outlook expresss screen I had set up folders containing emails from all my friends and associates.

How can I copy the old folders into the new hard drive. i have not wiped the old content off the small hard drive which is now operating as the slave?

Help much appreciated.

Errm.. what most people do is export all their mail first.. before annihaltating the OS :p

However, I will look into it for you, should have an answer in about 2 mins :-)

Okay, the files you require are all with .dbx extensions.

In the case of Outlook Express they are found in c:\windows\application data\identities\?????\mircrosoft\Outlook Express

The ??? Corresponds to a folder name created by the Windows product key, and is machine specific.

The specific files you want to keep are inbox.dbx, sent.dbx and folders.dbx

Hope this helps. :)

Cheers

Do you know where all the address book files will have been kept?

address book files usually show up as .WAB - I'm not sure if these are naturally visible or whether you have to have exported first ?

Ah yes,

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

that's where my Win98 one was found

Assuming you intend to keep the old disk as a slave you don't need to copy anything.
Just go into the options of Outlook and tell it to look on the D drive rather than the C drive for your user files.
