View Full Version : RHCP/James Brown last night
Went down Hyde Park to see the Chillis last night with the bird and a couple of mates - I had originally booked tickest AGES ago, but they fell through so we were lucky to score some on Thursday :)
Once we were there discovered our tickets were different from our mates, in that we were “Gold Circle” which mean that along with 3000 others, we were at the very front of the stage in a cordoned off area. Oh yes!
Managed to lose my green fairly rapidly, but wasn’t too bothered – it was raining too much to do anything with it anyway. Narrowly avoided getting soaked through use of bin bags and latching onto some Geordie with a brolly :wack:
James Brown was awesome (78 years old running round like a child! :notworthy), RHCP were very good. NERD and Ash weren’t there at all – dunno where I got that from. The stage and lightshow were amazing though
Then public bloody transport kicked in :indiff:
Concert finished, and we went back to catch the last train from Liverpool Street, as told by the bloke at Cambridge Station, only to find we wanted to be at Kings Cross in like 10 minutes. Finally made it, to find the two mates we went down with appeared not to be on the train – they had got split up as well, and as far as I know are still in London ……….
Train stopped at every fckin station on the way back with no-one getting off, absolutely no room - a bloody horrible journey, and after catching it at 12.10, finally got home at 3! Worthwhile though – good night/day.
But when I think about it, I could have driven down for less than half the price, smoked and listened to whatever music I wanted and easily made it home by 12.00 .......... :furious:

I don't want to talk about it
And unfortunately I've got no-one to blame but myself. I bloody hate it when that happens.

I unfortunately wasn't in gold class like Docwra. I was at front of fence of all the others getting squashed etc!!
Top concert though. 4th time I've seen the chilis. Jim Brown was ace. Chicks on speed.... well they deserved the boos and thankfully they pissed off after 15 mins

I was there on Sunday as well. It was shame that the girl from Chicks on Speed got hit in the face by the bottle, though. I'm not sure that the world is ready for their strange brand of noise.
The Chili Peppers were fantastic, but I thought it should have been much louder.

she could have helped herself by taking herself less seriously (sounds a strange comment considering their music and what they were wearing). Like when the other girl said you've been a great audience, they could have settled things with humour I mean

Apparently, this has happened at each of the british Chili Peppers gigs. They are at Glastonbury next week. Wonder if anyone will listen to them there?

This is word for word what I would have said. JB is one of the finest entertainers I have ever seen, and his band were fabulous
4th time I have seen the peppers as well - I have never heard John play the axe like that before though - he was making it scream  :D
Didnt see the chicks on speed though coz it was pissing with rain - heard they were shit
Went to the show in Manchester, and Chicks on Speed had stuff thrown at them there too.
A bit disappointed the Chili's only really did stuff from their last 2 albums (except for Give It Away and Under the Bridge which everyone expects anyway). Did enjoy it though and didn't get any rain! :D

Graham, you'll love it. And you won't have to find something to do during Chicks on Speed, as you'll see StellarStar instead.
I saw James Brown about 15 years ago at the Brixton Academy!
One of the best gigs I have ever been to, then he got nicked for beating up his missus :smash: :whip:

I've seen them twice at V and the setting makes it a far beter experience. Hyde Park was awful, far too jam packed

Not if you were in the "Gold Circle"   :p :p :p :p
Ive seen them 3 times before and each time was more cramped. V2001 was mad crammed, but then I was two rows from the front

I don't remember it being particularly crammed when I saw them at...erm...some festival thing...somewhere...in about '95, or maybe '96...
It would appear that there's quite alot I don't remember :D

You were spot on Hingy, it was fantastic. They are all amazing musicians and gave it everything. I don't think I've ever seen a band playing with such passion. They played a few too many of their recent songs, would have liked a few more earlier tracks and I know JC200SX was gutted that they didn't play Higher Ground. The weather was spot on too and even the train ride home wasn't too traumatic. A cracking gig. Didn't see the opening act, was too busy supping ales in the bar at Waterloo Station. Got there in time for James Brown who was also pretty cool.

Nice one Graham! Kelly was disappointed at not hearing the Zephyr Song. But I was happy just hearing a fantastic version of By The Way.
