My mum's noticed her cars cooling fan was coming on much more often and when she booted it ( :p ) on a stretch of DC she saw the temp. guge rise very quickly towards the red! On slowing down the guage returned to normal.... the car doesn't seem to be losing coolant.
Can anyone advise me if this sounds like a simple thermostat replacement jobby or could it be more serious.... head gasket time  ?
Cheers,
Jonny

The HG on my Pug 205 Turbo diesel is on the way out. I get similar symptoms although it tends to spit water out from the header tank. Have to say though ... it's been like it for 8 months now :D

Went for a drive today after topping up the coolant (had lost a lot since it was filled two weeks ago (lots of big air bubbles when I bled it). Noticed that ot took ages to get up to temp.... I know this is usually 'stat related but could it point to h'gasket too?

Oh well looks like it the Cylinder HG after all.... took it to a garage who I trust and they confirmed it. Unfortunately they only deal in MOT's and minor work so won't touch it.
Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much this'll cost, parts and labour...? I thought about £260 (£60 parts £200 labour) but I'm prob's way off.
Thx
J
