Stupid question maybe, but are there any kart fans out there?

I have recently acquired a full race spec chassis with 2 sets of alloys, one with wet tyres one with slicks.
There is, however, no engine in it at the moment.
I don't know what the chassis is yet (haven't seen it, but the price was too good to refuse!) so the questions are:

Where am I likely to be able to pick up a good race engine?
Where can I race it without having to pass my kart licence (initially, so I don't make an arse of myself when I eventually get my licence)?

Anyone help?

What are those Shifter Kart things .. ?
Have some video clips of a Yank with a (supercharged?) Chevvy V8 in his 240z, also quite handy with an R1, and his mates too, oh and he also acquired a viper from somewhere just to donut.. er anyway one of the clips he's out at a go kart 'track' with some friends and they're on these shifter kart things and they're bloody quick and one of them falls off at the end of the video it looks. I get the impression they were bike-engined monsters?

Unfortunately i have no clue about race engines for 'em, or licences or where to race http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/rides/andyf/crying.gif BUT I know they're good fun! We should go rallying some time, because if we go as a GROUP then we can win TROPHIES and stand on podiums!!!!!

And wouldn't it be great to drive a race go-kart on the road! Assuming you don't hit a pot hole or anything, imagine the fun ...
