just wondering what package that people are using to design their pages?
what is the easiest to use??

how hard is it to have a website as complex and apexperformance's? because that is a brilliant site.

Thats an off the shelf php shopping cart that is free to download.

Alot of people use the likes of dreamweaver/go-live etc that are very easy to use and get to grips with.

Dreamweaver can be downloaded as a trial from macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com) and to be fair, it's a good bit of software, used it day in and day out at my last job.

Im waiting for someone to claim notepad....

Frontpage isnt to bad for starting out, especially if you're used to the MS family.

I do it for a living and you can't go better than Dreamweaver MX.

It incorporates all the tools from the previous best package which was called Homesite.

:( have you got a portfolio together? Perhaps offering a couple of local charities a freebie web site just to put a collection together would help sell your services.

Hope you find something soon. (by the way has that takeaway got a website? convince the owner  )

Notepad and a quick trip to http://www.htmlgoodies.com

I've never used a program other than Notepad to do my HTML, self coding it is easy, the HTML tag system is the most logical thing going. I think stuff like Dreamweaver overcomplicates it all plus the amount of un-needed stuff you get in the HTML code is mad.

Well I use Serif products for DTP so thought I would use them fro web page. VERY easy to use but some say the code looks messy etc. But you could not get easier

Got Dreamweaver at work not really got into it yet

No it isn't - it is a dreadful programme, fatally flawed and has nothing to redeem itself. :hurl:

Im not comparing it in anyway to Dreamweaver (which I use) but it is easy to use and does feel like every other MS product.

I used Dreamweaver before Frontpage, and as a result, I would always advise against even so much as looking at Frontpage, never mind actually using it. I like most MS applications, but Frontpage should be avoided like an Ethiopian transexual. :indiff:

I used Frontpage to do the first SXOC site, which I thought was ok coming from someone who knew nowt about it and self tought over a few months or so. I thought FP was ok, allows some reasonably flashy things.........

Until Si came along and showed me what a proper web page looked like as he was doing the now SXOC site. Needless to say I felt completely crap:D

Well you can, Dreamweaver is shite. As ScoobyDoo said, notepad is a better tool. An advanced text editor is best - HomeSite+ is my favourtie at the moment.

But this thread is for someone with no experience, and Dreamweaver is the best WYSI (nearly) WYG website creator so it gets a  from me.

Whats your portfollio like?

I wasn't 100% serious... :)

My portfolio is crap really, only worked on three projects since I started this job. 1 has gone bankrupt so the site has been taken down, another are being awkward buggers so the half finished site has been put on hold, and the third has taken up 90% of my time since I started this job and STILL isn't finished due to horrendous complexities and the client changing his mind and not having a clue! My boss says it's the worst client he's ever dealt with, this should have been a 2 month project and I've been on it for a year now - nothing like that to kill your confidence!

Before I started the job I coded www.raceshoot.com and www.middleburn.co.uk - but I've come a long way since those two efforts! I'm a CSS-don, and after 16 months of it I guess I must be pretty good at ASP/SQL by now. Not had a chance to learn .NET yet, really want to. My weakest link is javascript, I hate it and avoid like the plague, only using when absolutely necessary!

That statement from my school report still haunts me "Paul has the ability but does not apply himself" :D
My school reports all said exactly the same. Well, not exactly because I'm not called Paul. My geography report went along the lines of "Aitch couldn't find his arse with both hands, so why he chose geography as a GCSE option is beyond me". :D
