The only points, ever, in thirty years of holding a licence, come from a plod leaping out of the bushes and pointing a laser gun at me. 56 mph in a 40mph zone, dual carriageway in Stevenage with no one within ¼ mile in either direction of me.

Anyway this happened about two years and a bit years ago, so I was checking out the paperwork to see when the points were going to be coming off. Now over the past year or so I have noted the comments of our Traffic Offence Guru, Turbo Pete, and at this point I realise I have failed the course on elementary point number one.

Date of Offence 5th May 1999, Date of Notice of Intended Prosecution 29th May 1999, somewhat outside the statutory 14 day period for the NIP to be sent. ********!

Take heed of the teachings of the Guru, I could have told them to piss off, no fine no points, no increased Insurance premium.

I take it they should have notified you within the 2 week period and didn't? Please explain to a eidiot like moi.

Thanks,

Thats exactly it, when you are NOT stopped at the time of the offence then the NIP must be issued within fourteen days.

If you are stopped it is a different matter as you (should) be told that they intend to prosecute at that time. If you are told they "may" prosecute then again I believe the fourteen day period again becomes operative.
