is now available (http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/), it would seem. :) Passing quickly over the fact that (yet a-f*cking-gain) we're being made to pay more for our tunes than our continental neighbours (http://www.snappishproductions.com/blog/archive/000785.html), has anyone used it?

 If I was going to spend money on music I would buy a CD :)

I suppose part of the idea here is that it's a legal version of the original Napster. You only download the songs you want, and not the rest of the album-filling dross. And they let you make your own CDs of it legally, reflecting the fact that once you've paid for the music, you're allowed to copy it for your own purposes as much as you like.

And if the price is < 1 pound per song, it'll be a touch cheaper than buying the latest CDs.

Good idea, except that it costs 79p per song in the UK, but 54p for the same song if you're in the US. Another example of the entertainment industry taking the p1ss!

I'm going to use it real soon, I've been waiting ages for it get up and running cos I can't use napster (legal one), Coke Music, etc. cos they won't work on mac, the hold up was that european music labels were arguing over the money they get from the downloads.

I really like the idea of legal electronic downloads for both music & software but it needs to be significantly cheaper than a real CD, if you look at the current offerings the online albums cost more than the original CD

Personally I'd rather buy the cd and rip it myself (Hmm - do i want to 'content protect' this file...) than pay the incredible fees charged by the legal download services for poor quality, 'rights managed' files.

I think its a great idea, I may start using it myself as I currently buy CD's regularly.

The pricing thing is annoying, but hey, what can we do? I've heard there will be other sites offering the same thing soon, but I'll be using the Apple version as you can guarantee it'll be the best just like their computers :D
