The engines too heavy and upsets the handling, and it's not much faster than the 2litre twin-spark, not to mention the fuel consumption. That's true of the 75 too, but at least that's RWD. Bit of a dark period for Alfa on the whole.
156 is much better, for a scrabbler at least.

Don't get me wrong though, the Alfa V6 is one of THE all-time great engines. If only the water pumps would last more than 30k....

They have a bit of the Fiat quality to them ... after 6months knobs and switches star breaking and generally falling apart

yeh v6 has little to gain over the twin spark except twice as much chance of head gasket failure. Go for 2litre and post 96 as these are wider bodied with much improved handling. Although eibach anti roll bar kit are a must. Got some brochures on GTA bodykit like the euro touring cars had, makes a dull car look the DD's. Biggest prob is an obscene driving position and expensive to tune if you want more power...g.luck

Have to go along with a lot of the above.

Electrical faults and ‘self detaching trim’ are all part of the package deal for older Italian cars.

The 2.5V6 is a very sweet engine, sounds gorgeous especially with a free flow exhaust. Nice torque curve too!

The widebody models have much better handling so are the ones to go for. However you may find that late 96 and later V6’s are like rocking horse doo-doo....

Tuning parts for Alfa’s mostly consist of stiffer / lowered suspension, exhaust, cams and induction kits. (None of which are cheap)

The 2 litre twin-spark has very similar power levels and is a lot more nimble round the twisties.

The Alfa owners club is a friendly group but mostly cater for the older Alfa’s, though things are improving.

My experience, I ran an Alfa75 3.0V6 for six years. (still on its original water ump ;) )

In the end it had 190HP at the (REAR) wheels, and made the sort of noise passing 5K rpm that makes you wind the windows down to drive through tunnels.. Then turn round and do it again :D

(Yes I’m a RWD Addict!)
and I must get a better zorst for the 2*****!

Cheers!
