New Camcorder.....HELP!

How do you upload the video from the camcorder to the pc ? have got cables just need to know what software I need to be able to do this....

I am running on windows XP and have windows Movie maker... I would want something a bit better though...


Usually via firewire. If you're running xp it's as easy as:
Plug camera into firewire port
Wait for windows to detect it
Find the camera in windows explorer
Copy the clips you want onto your hard drive.

Anything else gets more complicated.

I got this off another thread and can't find the camcorder in windows explorer. Can any one help where I would find it?

The lead is plugged into the USB port too
