View Full Version : the f and the f
ok old subject i know, the fast and the furious, only just seen it as its now on dvd, did not get chance to go to pictures. am i the only one who thinks its a bit poo? dont be to agressive in your replies, i was just wondering!
People will argue it's good to watch the cars .. but as a film, yes I don't like it too much, it's a bit goofy.

I'm watching it hopefully this week when my posse of 6 new speakers arrive and I'm gonna blast out all 600watts of my new amp through them.
I'm gonna resist putting the DVD anywhere near the player until they arrive.
I fully expect it to be a shyte film, themed films invariably are and FFS is made in America, the land of make believe.
BUT I gotta watch it purely for cars.
Then it's Clockwork Orange, and will have to stick the Matrix on again, then Bagpuss. :)
I have it on DVD and saw it at the movies. It is a godawful film with a poor plot and some really suspect acting but the cars by far make up for the rest of the films shortfalls. It's a shame Ridley Scott or Quentin Tarantino aren't into the Import street racing scene. We could have a serious bit of automotive eyecandy then :D

Just this minutre had the email saying your speakers are on the way.
So I'm having tomorrow off.
Speakers are KEF Coda 90 front floorstanders, coda 80 centre, code 70 bookshelf rears and a KEF PSW1000 sub, all in maple 50 meters of Ixos 6003 ''Gamma geometry'' Speaker Cable All to plug into my Yamaha RXV800RDS amp. Me's happy. :) :)

Well that sounds like a nice setup
I just cant understand how u will fit those speakers in?
I mean the back seats are too small as it is :D :D :D
Seriously though, the film is a bit crap, but im still gonna buy it for the cars.
And really lets be honest, no-one expected a good storyline

I watched it last night in DTS with the volume turned up, and it was COMPLETE FCKIN SHEEITE. Sorry but it just was.
Its like watching a Max power cruise but with sunshine and better looking women. The friggin paint jobs are bloody awful, I don't care how much power's under the bonnet, paint the fcker green/yellow and put eff off stickers all over it and Id rather walk.

I liked it.. But only for the cars, my favourite bit were some of the glaringly obvious errors in it...
Like a 300BHP car (An Eclipse with a T4 would be close to that) topping out at 120?!
Anyone else got any errors for me?!
Dave_s13, You do have a full 6 speaker DTS system properly setup thru a DTS amp via optical connection don't you? I'm surprised it sounded crap with the right setup, but then again, everyone has a different opinion on what sounds good or bad.
IMO, the sound quality is very good, cars are cool with some nice car chase type scenes, storyline and acting a bit Y-fronts!

BOSE??? Pah! Pile of overprices over styled poo, much like B&O. Give me proper Hi-Fi anyday. Pah!!
"Oh but it looks cool and my TV follows me round the room" - You that fecking lazy then?????? :p
Jezz, DTS rules, so much more rear end action *cough* than DD, but at twice the storage space. But my gawd is it worth it.
The bose lifestyle systems are fairly hefty on price, and start around £2K, but get a speaker system such as the AM10 or the newer AM15s and run them thru a DTS amp, such as Yamaha or Sony which weigh in at around 5-600 macaroons and you have yourself an excellent DTS setup for under £2K. Very Dynamic and using next to nothing space in your living room.

ahh but Bose system has not only a 6 speaker set-up, but speakers in the kitchen too! you can listen to different stuff in different rooms, and your right, look sexy! (I'm NOT saying I would EVER consider payng that kinda money, and yes! Overpriced.)
All I was saying is.. It sounded fecking awsome!! Bring it on baby!!
oh comments about it sounding ****e - You must have ether naffed up speakers, or a NON DTS decoder IMHO. With all the DV's going off all around when in a race scene.. the Ferrai engine noise.. NOT TO MENTION the V8 rumble we all love and smile at when the beast is started up.. hmm where's my tummy wipes? lol
DTS rules!!!
PS you will normally find thast Coax will "generally" sound better than Toslink or optical.
Heartiyl recommend AudioQuest cables for decnt AV and Hi-Fi usage.
Weh Hey!! Just noticed that I now have a 5 star Rating. Thanks for all that rated me. Makes me feel a bit useful!
:) :) :)
Richie,
Don't get me wrong, I do like the BOSE lifestyle systems for what they are, "stylized".
Just think that you are paying shedloads for mediocre sound that a £200 to £400 managers special deal from Richer Sounds will trounce all over.
Sure their Satellite speaker systems are good, for their size and rely on a hidden sub.
NXT speakers are also good and small and are generally cheaper too.
If you are after a multi room setup, look no further than Linn and Boothroyd Stewart. Admittedly considerably more money, but when a £300 seperates system will beat a £2500 Bose Lifestlye system who's counting the pennies?
Best thoughts I have heard yet on the Bose lifestyle systems came from Richard Bacon on the Big Breakfast the other day.
"They look like industrial air-conditioning units"
Jez, good choice in speakers, was originally looking at a set of Kef Coda 9's, but settled for a nice set of Mission 752 Freedoms instead. *John melts and goes all gooey*
Oh, just noticed that its only one vote, so thanks again whoever it was!!
;)

yeah its the satelite set-up he has.. and the sub.. Grr.. lol
I agree completely.
Get urself a panasonic surround system or even a toshiba.
£5-600 and ive never heard a system that sounds better.
Speakers are small so u can hide them anywhere, but loud enough to defen u if u like.
B+O = hitachi inside
Lowe =panasonic inside
dunno about bose, never repaired them.
I wouldnt pay over a grand for a system EVER, cos after that ur just splitting hairs about loudness or quality.
Or ur system is seriously over priced.
Only my opinion guys, but i am a tv/vcr/hifi repair guy, so ive heard (and repaired) quite a few.
And there are v few makes out there that are value for money instead of huge profit for no real differance.

Yeah, loads (we've been here before :) )
How about the concept that the same ~300bhp Eclipse that tops out at around 120 could ever run anything like a 10s quarter-mile (even after the addition of nitrous!)
So when he says "Dude, I still owe you a 10 second car" does he mean 10s 1/4 mile or 10s 0-100? I always assumed the latter. 'cos there's no way that the Mitsi could have done it the former. But I'm reliably informed (was is AndyF :) )that a "10 second car" always means the 1/4 time!
But at the end of the day, it's a film with hot cars, hot chicks, and lots of loud noises, and is one of the only films to cater for our jap-car-tuning interests. :D
Cool film. :D :D
Kev,
I used to feel that way too, until I started spending money on cables, isolation platforms, and decent audiophile quality seperates. These days I wouldn't generally buy a single seperate unit costing less than an RRP of £500 to £600 each. This does mean I have bought jack in quite a few years though, but when funds permit I am after a new CD player and minidisc deck. Mind you my current MD deck cost £170 from richer sounds aeons ago, bargain. You will often find thought, that every so often a new bargain appears for modest money it often compares with equipment twice the price. My CD player is one of them, but is getting a little long in the tooth now though, RRP of £400 about 6 or so years ago. Supposed to beat most £800 players of the time and cost me £250, not bad.
You will be amazed the differences you can hear between cables let alone different components. Haven't quite got into the uprating power sources and power leads, since this is very gets quite expensive quite quick, haev settled for Surged protected 4 or 6 ways instead. At least these prevent the MD synchro-records from fecking up when I put the kettle on!
When buying hi-fi you MUST find a good store with demo rooms, and take you rown music and your own seperates and cable along if you want to. If not you could well be buying something that everyone has said is breathtaking, but will sound breathless with your set up, and in your shaped room.
Admittedly diminishing returns set in, the more you go up in cost, the smaller the improvement you get.
What I have found though, is that my existing equipment often improves leaps and bounds when I upgrade a single component. Unfortunately, it often has a flip side, if you find something what has been recorded terribly, it really sounds ****e on a good system.
At the end of the day I love music. There are a couple more hifi nuts on here too if I remember rightly. At least one of which has spent shedloads more of hifi than I have.
Ps, saw a 200 with a number plate you would like. KEVS 70Y (KEVS TOY)

Certainly shagged this F & F thread though.
Hey John, your preaching to the converted m8 :D I fcuknig cringe when I see people walk out of Dixons with their "Super Stacker 20cd multiplayer all-in-one "hi-fi",makes the tea and has lots of flashing lights that do and mean feck all!!!! Hmmm, film : I thought was not too bad, especially liked the Dodge Charger with the 440 Hemi and a roots blower :) but then I do like my American V8's
Was watching it on an Hitatchi 28inch widescreen TV with an Ariston multi region DVD player sound compliments of a Sherwood RDS6090 AV amp, 2 pairs of Mission 761i's, an Eltax centre (no sub yet :() with Gale 189 cabling.

Call me a thickie, but why, when Brian was in the sreet race with his Eclipse did the floor panel fall out, and more to the point why did he have a fappin great big hole in the floor with a bit of ally kick plate over it? Is this some kind of quick escape hatch like they have in tanks?

Not only that why the feck did it actually fall out.
I agree DTS was awsome but didn't make up for the quality of the film. :(

zackly!
beware the "tuner" who drives a VW jetta (or whatever it was)
gash film, gash actors, car were shiney. maybe entertaining if it were about car racing rather than robbing dvd's. as it was, ive had more interesting bowls of cereal. Still bought it though, just so i could see the longest 1/4 mile race ever. despite vision going blurry with nitrous and 150mph speeds being attained, race still managed to last a good minute or so. absolute class. seen more aggresive racing round whsmiths car park on a lazy tuesday afternoon. blah blah blah.
i dont know anyting about home speakers.
i didnt like gone in 60 seconds either. why didnt whatsisname just kill that english bloke at the beginning? all it would have taken was for him to go "ok, i'll steal the cars" then walk away, sneak round the back and kill the muppet.
"why didnt whatsisname just kill that english bloke at the beginning? all it would have taken was for him to go "ok, i'll steal the cars" then walk away, sneak round the back and kill the muppet."

Hi guy's just to add my thoughts...
I love the cars, sounds, women...
plot is ****e.
there are technical errors everywhere...
the eclise has those bolt on brake discs at the back!!
the phrase 'full motech exhaust' is wrong - motech make engine management systems.
during the bike chase both bikes sound like 4 strokes but one is a two stroke. you can tell by the large expansion chamber exhaust.
The tech kiddie is surprised when the supra has a 2jz motor in it.... they all have!!
johnnie tran grills his engine guy for nissan SR20 motors to go in his honda's (I think).
shall I go on.....?
p.s. I'm sure the eclipse tops out at claimed 140....?
BUT - the cars are tops - best jap performance film yet!!
beats gone in 60 into the floor in my opinion.
I'm sure this'll cause arguments but oh well!!

Just so long as they're ill-tempered :D :D
I didn't spend five years at evil medical school to be called Mr, thank you very much! :D :D :D
......and another thing. Brian kills his Eclipse in the drag race with smoke pouring out from the engine bay. The next minute he is outrunning the cops in an attempt to get "Da Rispec" he wants from whatsisfaceRX7dude, with comparitive ease. A self fixing car? Nice
Those are 2 of my alltime favourite films, can't wait for the 3rd one.
"Please, allow myself to introduce........myself  "
"Why must i be surrounded by fricken idiots?"
"You know, Scott. I've been a frickin' evil doctor for 30 frickin' years, OK? Cut me some "frickin'" slack. You forget Scott. We're in a volcano. We're surrounded by liquid hot magma."
"Cause your not quite evil enough. Your semi-evil, your quasi-evil, your the margarine of evil, your the diet coke of evil, just one calorie, not "evil" enough
"
And one of my altime favourites:
"The details of my life are quite inconsequential.... very well, where do i begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it."
