`ve got a friend who has been on a drip for a good while now and they can only consume anything down it.
So it has to be thin liquid.
But they are wasting away.
They`ve lost all fat and now a lot of muscle.
I`ve suggested these protein drinks cos i`m on them but they are not too good at keeping milks down.
Could any of you guys tell me if there is a non milk based protein drink that`ll mix thin enough to go down a tube without blocking?
Or direct me to a good source of this information.
I can't remember completely, but I think Pro-Max protein powder mixes very well with water.

If you're saying that they are on an intravenous drip, are they being fed this way?
Are they moving about, if not, muscle atrophy will happen and only physiotherapy will help.
I would consult with a physician, because the wrong thing can be terrible.
Hope your friend gets better.

had cancer of tongue. Had op and chemo. Hole under tongue wont heal. Need new op to seal hole.Cant eat. Out of hossy.Hossy have put a drip up the nose. They are mobile with it.
But havent eaten solids for 16 weeks.
Fat and now muscle disapearing fast.
Thought some weak solution like this would help build them up a bit.But they are a bit sensitive to milk.
Solution needs to fit down the tube.
These powders contain aminos and vits and minerals so i thought it`d be a good idea before they waste away completely.
They can have other things but it has to go down the tube and not in the mouth.
hehe wtf am i putting this here for hey http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
Ah nevermind i`m sure there`s a load of you guys who are highly toned bodybuilders who treat their bodies like temples and all that who can maybe give some nutritional ideas.......maybe not come to think of it http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
It's an Nasogastric tube, not a drip. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif You can fit fairly thick stuff down, as in hospital we have machines that kinda squeeze it down there. Does your friend have one?
As for the muscle loss, yes, you'll need exercise to replace any significant lost muscle, and some morement to prevent further loss. Fat will be put on if the total energy intake exceeds the total energy usage by a bit.
I'm sure the hospital would be able to supply suitable stuff? And if they already are, I'd suspect that it will already be pretty concentrated calorifically - it should say somewhere on the packet.
THe problem with weightloss might not be so much the food he's currently getting, but rather the difficulty of getting enough food down the tube.
As an example: Consider the volume of (say) a pizza (which is pretty calorific), then imagine smoothing it all down, and adding lots of fluid (which would increase the volume more), concentrating it a bit, and then trying to fit it down a tube little larger than a boost-gauge tube. And that's only (say) 1000 calories!
For an average bloke, aim at 2500 calories / day; for your friend, this (or a little more) might be about right, as I guess he's less active than some, but will need more energy to help combat the 5hit that's going on to his body.
Best wishes. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
EAS make good protein drinks stuff, some say it's the best, all of which can be mixed with water. I have used their "Simply protien" for a while and it can be as thin as you want it to be. It is just protein though, nothing else. There is a very good shop in St Albans that sell various supplements, if your are interested i can get the details for you tommorow. They do mail order BTW.
Pro-Max is going through a major lawsuit for faking lab reports, although their protien shake does mix well with water. Just doesn't contian as much protein as the label calaims.

thanks fellas.
Some good info there.
I think "she" has learned her lesson now and is going to keep the bloody tube IN !!!
I`ve roasted her a teency bit.
She`s also trying to find one that mixes best with water now and doing her "geri haliwell " video (i`m saying nothing).
She must look like a stick insect dancing on hot coals http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
Shes on her way now so i`ll give her the brands you mentioned.
Cheers!
