The state of Hawaii has backed down on plans to rollout speed cameras after angry drivers on Oahu retaliated at Big Brother measures. Abuse, offensive gestures and even garbage was hurled at staff operating unmarked Toyota Sienna vans, newspapers urged drivers not to pay fines, whilst radio stations gave out locations. The scheme is being run by a private company, to whom the state has effectively given a licence to mug drivers.
