View Full Version : Girlfriend or 200??
Do you let your girlfriend drive your 200SX?
If so, how often? I'm avin an argument wiv mine bout it just lately.

I let mine drive the 200, but:
1- She's really consciencious and "road dangers aware" (suprising, isn't it?)
2- Not on wet roads (she doesn't want, anyway: see point 4)
3- I explained her carefuly the difference between a 45bhp FWD Peugeot 106 (her car) and a 240BHP RWD 200SX (my car :D ),the main difference being fwd/rwd, oh! and the power difference, oh! and French/Japanese concepts of driving pleasure :D :D
and:
4- Took her with me for one of my 'crazy' drives (like the cats do sometimes - cat owners, you know what I mean!) on my favorite playground, where I can "train" drifting, so she can realise what wheelspin and oversteer mean in the real world...
I think the main point in letting someone else driving your car (girlfriend or mate) is TRUST: it's not a thought, it's a fact!
In my case, point 4 was the trigger for her to realise that even only accelerating, with a powerful car, could be dangerous...
Hope it helps!
Cheers

My girlfriend won't drive mine after she stacked it into a Nissan Sunny... She normally drives a Corsa diesel and relies on engine braking, she changed down from 2nd to 1st approaching a junction and all that happened was the revs rose, she then paniced and broke far to late and got the nose of my car broken :( .
Personaly I think she should drive it again, her confidence too ka bit of a beating!
Since I got my girlfriend on my insurance I can't get her out of the bloody thing every morning when I go out to go to work she has taken my car and left me with her 309 Peugeot. I've tried to explain if I wanted to drive a 309 I would have bought one but it seems to fall on deaf ears, she just tells me what a nice car the 200 is to drive and how fast it is "I was doing 100 the other day and did't even realise until I looked at the speedo" time to hide the keys I think.

No need to hide the keys! Just wait for the police to do its job :D
Be waiting a long time probably. Its the enthusiasts they go after.
You guys have got it all wrong. When you were at the 'looking for partner' stage. You should have only viewed the 'not got a lisence' catagory. Never had an argument yet about it. And, coz she's seen the way I drive and the way others around me react she never wants to drive. This could be true love... :D
Whats the deal with adding your partner onto the insurance? Is it much more money?!

I tried that, but it has'nt feckin helped me, she wants me to teach her to drive in it now.
Did not cost me anything to add my girlfriend as a named driver she is older than me and has a 'clean' driving record, it would have cost if she was younger or had accidents or convictions. I only did it because I thought it would be useful if she could drive it now and then, not use it as her everyday transport,I wouldn't mind so much if she had a decent motor for me to drive

My girlfriends going on my policy when hers runs out in April, its only gonna cost her £175 for year and she can drive any car. Its a traders policy though
nissan wanted an extra £20 this year to put her on, but i did not have to, as im all on my own now. :(
Not a chance, even if I wasn't single at the moment :)
I don't even let my Dad near it. :)
I let my ex drive round a car park, no chance on the road.
Martin, couldn't get your email address, but is there any chance of seeing you on sat at the longwell green meet?
Jimbo
I'll try and make it on Sat if I can get my hands on the car!
Look out for an old fart in a met burgandy s14 standard apart from car park battle scars
My GF likes the 200....might put her on my policy in april so she can get used to a RWD Turbo car.......as she's considering one for her next car!
i told the missus she can drive it anytime:nod: but after explaining the sudden unexpected boost from the turbo and all that power to the back wheels, how to correct the back end when it steps out blah...................... blah....................she does'nt seem to want to;)
I wont let the girlfriend drive it incase the wife see's her, the wife wont even get in as a passenger anymore:)

I don't mind my missus driving it.
First time she took it out on her own (about 2 weeks after passing her test) she came back with a wierd grin on her face. I asked what she thought of the car. Her started giggling uncontrolably and replied, "It doesn't half shift".
She's bored of her 100nx already (she only passed 3 months ago) and now wants a Zed or a Supra :D
i only let the wife drive it 2pm on sundays..... to take me to the pub to get bladdered with the lads, any other time, not a chance and she will not drive it on boost.... she says it gets scary too quick.
suits me LOL

At first I thought it was good that my missus doesnt drive, then I realised it was bad as
A) I wont leave my car anywhere apart from my house and sometimes her flat, ruling out going out anywhere together or moving out with her (sore subject)
B) She doesnt share my enthusiasm for drinking either! So I wanna get pissed all the time but she doesnt like drinking too much :( or me drinking too much
But she wont drive because she doesnt want to learn :annoyed:
I've offered to buy her lessons and a car too!!

Time for a new girlfriend?
Ive tried to get my GF to drive both my old civic, and my 200! Shes terrified that shes gonna stack it - especially when I show her how sideways the S-body likes to get!!
My ex GF, drove my ex 200SX (my previous one) on the Nürburgring and did it very neatly except for some panic when got overtaken/cutoff by a Porsche.
The main difference I noticed in driving between men and woman is that woman tend not to stay cool and stay rational in unsuspected and hectic situations. I mean no disrespect but they freak out and loose it. Atleast, this is what I have noticed from woman drivers. Offcourse, men have the disadvantage of testostoron/machoness, especially at a young age wich puts them into most accidents.
The great advantage to a GF being able to drive u'r car is that you can get drunk and she drives

My girlfriend loved my SX, but she only ever drove it once! Before she'd even left the car park we'd hit a speed ramp at about 20mph and then drove into a glass bottle that bounced off the intercooler! :censored: :annoyed:
Needless to say, we swapped seats and she never drove it again!
(In fairness to her though, she was just 19 at the time and it was 3 times as powerful as anything she's ever driven before, and a first time in a RWD car....she managed to get the back end out and recover it as soon as she pulled off! ).

I have recently moved in with my g/f and took the opertunity to get insured on her corsa to run back and forth to work.
She said. what if I need to go to the shops when you'r at work.
Without thinking I replied. take my car. :annoyed:
I let her take it for a drive with me in the pasenger seat to see how she got on.
She was very slow and cautios at first but when we reached sone twisty back roads her speed crept up and up. When I sugested she take it easy on the corners she said. Oops am I getting a bit carried away.
I also catch her booting it away from every junction because she likes the noise.
Now she drives it more than me. Meanwhile all the guys at work call me a chav because I drive a corsa.:ghey:
might let mine drive it, she cant be any worse than me :wack: :D
im single at the moment, but here are the people i really wont let them drive my 200 when i have it:
my Dad:
he can not drive a car with more than two pedals, and if the shifter goes in an H pattern.
my Sister:
i let her drive my quad once...over revving for nearly 30 seconds in first gear:mad: . she cant park, and she learned driving in the caribbean (which can not be a good thing!)
my mom can drive my car, but i dont think she will do it constantly...she will have a go but thats it lol.
i only trust two mates who can drive my car, and they both life in holland.
girlfriend....she probably wont sit anywhere else than in the passenger seat.

I've my gf drive mine.. she knows how much the car means to me so she takes good care of it.
She doesn't like the look of the S14a's but after driving it the first time said "I can see why you like it.. it doesn't half shift". Aparently after dropping me off at a mates house she went home the usual way through the back roads.. she came upto a car what she though was going really slowly.. it wasn't she was doing about 80 and didn't realise.
She finds it amusing when the chavy boy racers see her in the car - they must be thinking whats a lass doing driving that!
I'd let my dad drive mine as he's a sensible driver.. I've got a mate who keeps asking for a go - he's got NO CHANCE as he'll rag it for certain.. I do but its my car I paid for that priveledge!
Yup, as she loves driving it, and gives it respect :) why the hell not? At the end of the day it's only fair. Plus, if i didn't, it might mean i couldn't driver hers :wack:
Whenever she gets home from work after borrrowing mine it's always with a massive grin and a greeting of 'Your car's soooo cool!' :D

My GF is scared of it and wont drive it! She loves being a passenger but she was in the car with me when the back stepped out once and since then shes too worried about spanking it. She had a quick go in a car park when i got it but thats it. If we go to the pub we take hers cos were both insured on that. To be honest, which ever car we take, i usually drive.
I wouldnt mind her driving it if i was there, but theres no chance i'd let her in it on her own!
G/f has driven mine but being 5'2 she cant see the end of the bonnet...
She has also been commended by one of my mates who clocked her twatting some saxo driving herberts on the maidstone one way, only to slide the back end out on one of the roundabouts....my mate said to me "well done for seeing them off, good bit of driving that...." ummmm..wasnt me....!!
I was in denmark at the time.....:D
Still, she gets paranoid cos i'm a perrible passenger at the best of times...
I can't see the end of the bonnet either :o
Chloe refuses to drive mine saying it's too scary!
The wife drives it when she wants although if I have just cleaned it and its pissing down then I'll tell her it stays in the garage :p
She doesnt like the fact that I have tuned it so much as in her words its made the car quite twitchy - it can be a bit of a handful but since she has learned to use the AVCR and turn the boost down she seems happier with it...
She does like to put her foot down but she has alot more sense that me so keeps it under control - but she has had me grabbing the jesus handle a few times... ;)
There is no denying one shiny car + one blonde long haired lady with a more than ample handful = alot of admiring glances ;)

My other half is still learning, so let her drive it in an empty carpark. She never got out of first gear, and never even came anywhere near boost, but she was terrified by the time she stopped. She wants an MX5 turbo now. :D

my missus would love to be put on mine, but being only 19 my insurance company wont touch her. i let her have a blast on a private road and she loved it. because shes been so used to a rover 100 she loves the hard gear changes.
Well mines not on my policy, and being 23, I don't think her's covers other cars, not sure if she even wants to drive it anyway.
On the flip side, it's OK for me to drive her Swift :wack:

Simple answer to this one.
NO ONE drives my car but me :)
I've let me misses drive mine around a McDonalds car park once.
She was too scared of damaging it to do any sort of speed :D (phew!)
She does ask occasionally, but I think we all know what the response is :whip:
My Ex can't even drive her cruddy old Clio without kerbing it
My current GF can't wait to get behind the wheel
I'll be waiting until it gets both warmer and drier before she gets a go :D:D:D

"Yes sweetcakes, anything you say" ?

Last time tasha drove the S13 she managed to mount a kerb. :wack:
So Im goign to let her drive the drift car at Lydd next week - no kerbs there :D
I let mine drive it. I try and make her drive it a little bit fast but she wont....her words are " i dont like it when it hits the 3 and goes for it!"

She's never driven my s13 but has borrowed my 205 loads of times and that car means a lot more to me. She's got her own s12 anyway which has penty of grunt so I'd not be worried about her handling it
My missus drives the R32, no problems (so far)
I always let the wife drive mine if she wants, which is never since I fitted the paddle :D
Golden rule here is let her drive it first in a large car park if she is unexperience with a RWD car, then mod it so she can't drive it :D or as above you take over and scare the living shit out of her by drifitng, donuts and tank slappers. works everytime  ;)

My missis has never driven my S14 or even sat in the drivers seat! , although she hasn't even asked to drive it either, i think she knows how much time and money i've put into it and would be scared to prang it etc.
The only Jap performance car she has sat behind the wheel of was Mammoth's R32 GTR, but she fell asleep while we were fitting lowering springs to mine. :wack: :D

i would let her drive it, but only with me in the car..although when it comes to parking, i would have to take over, theres no way shes kerbing my nismos :wack:
however i know she doesnt want to drive it, and even if she did she would hate the lowness of the car, stiffness of the shifter and the pigeon!! so its all good :D

'i have to show her what its like when it goes sideways, so she knows what it feels like'
but then she will drive it and not go above 20mph!!
My other half is insured but rarely drives it...
She's also rather worried in general about driving it as when she took it to her work once, when she parked/reversed it, she decided to introduce the rear panel/wheel arch to a wall
A word of advice, only let her drive it if you can forgive her after this...

My wife drives mine whenever she wants, I don't see testicles as being important for driving :wack: She drives as many women do, safer and slower than me. She did learn to drive in RWD cars though. To be honest I'd rather give her the keys than most of the heroes on here!
not if i can help it, its my baby. I only let her drive it when I am on the phone or am drunk.
I've made it quite clear at the start of my last 2 relationships that no girlfriend will ever get to drive my 200. I've also demonstrated why just to prove a point. Last but not least I've made it quite clear that the 200 comes first. I think that might be why i'm single again.

Ive driven it at Brands Hatch, which I did alright at (even if I do say so myself :wack: ). Fair enough everyone was going past me but I wasn't exactly going slow and having never driven the car before, and the fact that its not mine, and obviously his pride and joy, I was being very careful.
I wont drive it anywhere near as harshly round corners and bends as I do my own car because I know FWD & RWD are completely different. And much as it would be tempting to have a go with other cars, it's not my car and Id rather dig myself a hole and die than anything happen to that car.

Adding any woman to your insurance usually reduces the cost - so if you don't have a girlfriend put your mum on.

To be absolutely fair, I don't have a real problem with the missus' driving (although it's not brilliant by any stretch, she has a lack of car control) it's just her driving THAT car.
1) it's a skyline, so every cnut on the road thinks you're well up for a race and harrasses you. She's not used to dealing with that and gets flustered when the local chavs try to goad her. It makes her panic.
2) she has absolutely no mechanical knowledge nor sympathy. Ask her how much petrol the car has in it, the answer will be "I dunno" - even if the petrol light is on all the way through her journey, so imagine what happens if the oil light comes on. This also applies to things like should a cam belt snap - she'd be sitting there spinning it over and over and over on the starter wondering why it wont start, buggering a whole 24 valves and 6 pistons.

Plenty of women like that - a girl who i worked with used to let me drive her mk2 escort into work and spent ages encouraging me to "make progress" and "exploit the machines handling" (both phrases used by my ex bike cop motorcycle instructor to encourage me to enjoy the bike properly!)
She also had boobs the size of my head - shame it was only the car that she allowed me to "make progress" and "exploit the machines handling" on! :D

This also applies to things like should a cam belt snap - she'd be sitting there spinning it over and over and over on the starter wondering why it wont start, buggering a whole 24 valves and 6 pistons.
Fair enough, but if the valves didn't kiss the pistons on the first full rev of the crank, they're not going to - there's nothing to moove the valves position.
To contradict myself though, you know your missus, and some people aren't fit to drive a feisty car! Nothing to do with gender though!

heh :D She does give it some stick, sometimes ;)
It is very funny to watch I have to say, when Mr Novaboy comes rolling up along side at the traffic lights ready to gun it, and looks across to find a 25 year old girl driving :D

Oh no not at all, the reason she's on the insurance is because I trust her to be on there. I don't have that issue with her, she's careful with how she drives.
In fact I'll probably look to get her on a track day once the skyline is more "complete" just to get her used to taking the car closer to the limit and what that feels like/what happens when it gets a bit out of hand. I think that'll help her immensely

Trust me to totally misread your post! doh!
Haha this thread reminded me of the prediciment when I bought my 200sx. My girlfriend at the time lived 192 miles away and it cost alot to see her, we had already talked about her moving in and she said she wanted to etc but it wasn't finalised as it were.
Then I found my 200 for sale and had to ask my girlfriend "I have found this car for sale at work.. but.. it's not perhaps as sensible as the other cars I was looking at so won't be so great on the fuel. I need to know for sure if you are going to move on so I can decide if I can buy it or not" lol
No she doesn't drive it, no license yet and insurance would be too high :) she is however considering getting a Nissan Micra for when she passes which we would hopefully share on long journeys. It is going to be odd...
i would'nt let my bloke drive my car he would prob drive it into a wall with excitment lol

Tháts, why the driver should be left alone while driving instead of creating a vaccuum on him. Although it exciting to do while drifting at the same time (unintentionally).
