Micra 1.0 h plate probs

Gets a phonecall from me maw tonight.

Anyway, when i get there she says that she was driving along and the power just died.
So i pops the bonnet and have a wee look about, dont seem anything wrong.

Start the car no probs, except for........
Smoke pluming out of the air filter??????

Take the top off the filter, and its p!ssing out of the breather (connected to the rocker cover) at the top of the filter.
Take the oil cap off and more comes out.
Car is still running ok!

So i drove it the 15 miles home.
While on the drive home, i noticed that im getting cold air in through the heaters instead of hot.
aaaaaaaaaah, no water!!
Looks at gauge and it all becomes clear.
Temp guage is dam near the top and car is loosing power again.

Basically im assuming that whats happened is that one of the water pipes has cracked/holed and its lost all its water while me maw's been driving it.
She hasnt noticed this and the temp has skyed.
This has probably warped the cylinder head and lost her the compression and therefor killed the engine.

Im gonna stick some water in it 2,moro and see what happens, and i will compression test it also.

Im basically just wondering if anyone has any other theories about what has happened, or any suggestions about what damage may have been done.

Or u can just slag me for having 2 micra's in the family, both of which have broken down in the past 2 weeks :rolleyes:

I just had a core plug go on the wife's Clio, what i thought was going to be a mare of a job, turned into a 30 minute job, and most of that was taking the battery and the dizzy out. I doubt to much damage has been done to the head though, micra engine are sturdy little buggers, fill up the water and find the leak though.

Not what you want to hear, but Micra related, had one just sat on the drive for 3 years, bought a new battery for it and it passed its MOT first time. Apparently moss growing on the bonnet doesn't constitute a failure.

No PAS and like a tank to drive tho.

Was pi$$in down and blowin a gale today so i didnt bother with the comp test.

I did however find the leak, one of the metal pipes at the front of the block.

Still gettin a bit of smoke when i start the engine, and its rattling like feck, but apart from that all seems well.

My 3rd car is a K10 Micra on a J plate,was down in S****horpe till last night and I am finding it hard to keep up with the posts on here ( been away from home 4 weeks out of last 6 with no net access! ). Anyway, also check the metal pipe where it runs to the driver side into the water pump. There is an O ring in there which is prone to cracking and leaking. My advice remove pipe and clean up end at water pump ( Will be rusty !) fit new o-ring( lubricate to help refit ) and refit. Its just the bolts thru the bracket and engine gearbox mounting then pull it out. :)
