Ive got a virus in my "System information Folder" that i cant get rid of, ive put AVG on there as well as having McAfee and they both report it, and say that they have quarintined it but its still there :furious:
does anyone know of a program or something that will get rid of it, plus im sure its the same one that keeps on changing my home page as well, and making my pc run really slow.
:furious: :furious: :furious: Virus makers should be sent to labs and have real viruses tested on them to further research.
If the Anti-Virus has detected it and has given you a name....got to www.symantec.com and go their virus removal tools section.

I will have a look at the name next time it pops up, cause ive just done another virus scan and it says its all clear, somehow i dont belive it,
just looked in the quarintened folder of McAfee and it says that its the
"Eploit-ByteVerify" trojan, so off i go looking for info on that now.

I dont suppose you have a link handt do you cause all i can find are removal tools you have to buy, and seeing as i didnt buy the trojan in the first place :(
best way is to disable system restore under system on xp which will dump all that info then run a cleaner/scanner
when its all clean you can enable system restore if you want

ive already disable system restore, but i still cant find a free cleaner anywhere, i know i probably looking in the wrong places though
hmmm looks like its just an update and full scan to remove job
you will probably have to modify your scan settings to catch it tho
recommend change it to scan all files, scan within archives, and repair then delete if repair not possible, run from safe mode

Thats the strange thing though, both antivirus progs are updated and when i run a scan sometimes it catches it and sometimes they dont, but every now and again i get AVG normally popping up to say that it has caught it again.
And ive been looking for a removal tool but all i can find so far is ones to remove trojans other than the one that ive got

You need to update Windows to stop it coming back.
It uses a vulnerability in MS's Virtual Machine http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-011.mspx
Just go to www.windowsupdate.com and install all the critical updates.
theres a few suggestions here (http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=95648)

Thanks for the suggestions, but after i ran a virus check in safe mode, the thing would get the the desktop for about 2 seconds and then the pc would reset all by itself, so i thought sod it, and did a fresh install, and its all dandy now :D :D :D
