What the fuk have Microsoft done to XP, aparantly my "\windows\system32\config\system" file is corrupt or missing so I thouht OK I'll run a repair, like on Win2000. The XP repair/setup screen doesn't have the option to do a fast (automatic) repair but only the option to reapir using the recovery console.
I don't know (and don't want to know) how to use the recovery console, I want it to fix itself like it did before.
Antway I'm fixing it by reinstalling XP but there must be a quicker way, can anyone shed any light??
Cheers.

Mate,
You've got a problem with your PC or you are not shutting it down.
Your system hive (HKLM\System) is corrupt or missing, get the data off the machine, sort out your PC and rebuild it.
Is the machine getting too hot? Or have you got problems with a piece of hardware?
If you were getting this under Win2K and XP, it ain't the OS. Have had this a few times myself, when my graphics card was giving me gyp and the PC was getting too hot. Many experienced this when my fecking sister decided to use the machine. GRRRRRRRRR
XP is really good. My machine overheats every so often if I am not careful, have got about 10 fans in there and an uprated PSU, running 2.5 bar, oooppps.... http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/rolleyes.gif If I run my GFX card on 32 bit colour it BSOD's on Process has locked ******.. But this is a heat problem by the looks of it.
Microsoft have numerous faults, Win 9x for example, but XP is good. Fast too.
There is no point reparing XP when this has happened, sicne it will just load a fresh copied of the system hive. Which will not include any details of anything you have installed since you cut your emergency repair disk, if you have one. If you don't you will get a completelym bare system hive.
Only viable option is to reinstall.
Use Ghost or Drive image pro.
