This may come as a shock to some of you who know me and how much I worship my car, but I'm getting to a stage in my finances where it's becoming difficult and also at a stage where I would like to move out from my parents house. To enable me to do this I would probably have to sell my beloved car :( I say probably, because I am going to do as much as is physically possibel not to sell him as it really woud break my heart, but like I said I sat down earlier with my bloke and worked out my finances - needless to say it was rather shocking and unfortunately the reason for the majority of my credit card debt & one loan is my car.
Now when thinking of alternative cars my preferences are: has to be a medium sized car as smallest (feel unsafe in small cars), has to have ABS and power steering (& preferably electric windows although not a must). It cannot be something that is going to cost a bomb for me to insure (max. group 15) but I also want something pretty reliable and that the parts aren't massively pricy. I will not have anything that is french, Rovers or Italian cars and to an extent I'm not keen on Fords, Vauxhalls or Saab's. (I am a fussy bugger when it comes to cars  ). I would be looking to spend a maximum of about £2000, but would prefer (if possible) something that is newer-ish (P-reg or newer).
I know this is a pretty tight requirement list, but I haven't really come up with a lot. Just wondered what you guys on here could suggest. And like I said this really only a prospective list as I hope not to sell my car.(fingers crossed)

Many thanks

A

For sensible, reliable, cheap and safe feeling you want a VW. I'm not sure about insurance costs but a gti probably just squeezes in under group 15.

get an s13. I've already said to Dan that he should get a standard one when his goes. You know the cars so stick with them, If you need to free up some cash or reduce outgoings you could probably find a 14 for reasonable money. Just look at what we found for Matt_S :)

Gets my vote too (well it would, wouldn't it! :wack: )
Great car - reliable - nice-handling for a scrabble-mobile - reasonable performance with the eGT.
Unfortunately looks like a taxi, and a bit souless :(

I know the thought is killing me. I was driving it to work this morning, just cruisin along and appeared in my mirror was some tw@t thinking he was cool in his new vectra :hurl: lingerin on my ass like it was made of beer (!!!) So I just dabbed on the throttle and bye bye mr tw@t poser man :D I love my car so much, ARGH :annoyed: I really don't wanna get rid of it, but it's either that or moving out and some times I think I can cope with living and home and loving my car, but others I just wanna get out and away from my parents house  :annoyed:

Don't get rid of the car!

I've already told my parents that when I get my 200sx I won't be able to afford to move out any time soon. Told them that they'd move out before I do :D Only downside was, as my dad pointed out, "if we move out we'll be selling the house and you'll be homeless". Not ideal, but at least I'd have my car
