View Full Version : PS2 + Region 1 + Region 2 DVD'S??
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ALL ABOUT?
ok, i nee a quick low-down and a "what can i do about it.....
as i gather there is region 1 and region 2 dvd format, region 2 is accepted by PS2, which i have, whereas region 1 isn't, and region 1 tends to be all the new and great and cheap stuff also available from USA.
Whats the deal? can i convert PS2 to region 1 use as well? over here i have been told that i can buy a CD for the PS2 which will convert it to allow for region 1? anyone heard of this? good idea? and also....where does everyone get their DVD'S from and for how much?

Just get a region convertor for your PS2 from HMV (£17). It will then enable you PS2 to play all regions. I have The Fast and The Furious on R1 which runs fine and I have also ordered Swordfish on R1. All the converter disc does is reformat the system to take all region discs!!
Erm ........... theres a slightly non-legal DIVX chip you can put into a PS2 that will let you play all region disks, and *cough* <quiet voice> copies </quiet voice>
But you need to find a man who can do it for you. Costs about £30 but then games can cost as little as £2.50 each ........... or so Ive been told http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

DL, no the player formats for whatever region you ask for when the disc boots up. It gives you the option of R1,R2,R3,R4. You select one of these and then put in the DVD. When you turn the machine off it reverts back to R2, so it's not permanent. I have 2 mates that have chipped their PS2 for all region and it is a fu**ing nightmare job even if you are a dab hand with a soldering iron. The HMV disc only costs £17 so why risk feckin up you PS2?
PLAY 24-7 is one of the best sources. I'm pretty sure you can mail order the convertor disc thro HMV. It's totally reusable and so far no probs. If you have no luck in getting one e-mail me and we can come to some "arrangement" http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
nice one mate, i will get on to my bro back home and see what he can sort for me in the way of that disc, checked out HMV's website but couldnt see a convertor disc, just releases and overpriced DVD's. i'm not the only one who thinks that 20 quid a DVD is a bit much am i? i was under the impression that they could be had thru from the states for like 10-15 quid for the newest releases?

<quiet voice> I have a 'mate' who will be more than willing to chip your PS2 for you at a decent donation rate. He has a 40 CD folder full of err.. backup games, from japan, US everywhere. Even the ones that come on DVD are RIPPED and put onto CDRW. He also has a 'Region X' CD which is handy too. <end quiet voice>

Also the this lot, www.ezydvd.com.au (http://www.ezydvd.com.au) seem to be the cheapest source of DVD's on the net, something like £10-£13 a disc including delivery.
www.dvdboxoffice.com (http://www.dvdboxoffice.com) can be cheap as well and www.adultdvdboxoffice.com (http://www.adultdvdboxoffice.com) are a good source of those disgusting films that I don't watch ever, honest.

I've looked on play247 and FF is 16 quid delivered, how long will it take to arrive and where are they based?

Bean, I got F+F from play 24-7 and it took 10 days as it was out of stock. They are based in Jersey apparently. Yeah mine was £16 too.

can you get dvd burners yet and do straight back ups of dvd`s like a cdr does.
Will the ps2 that plays the back ups have to be chipped with one of these chips you are all talking about.

Buy an action replay V2 for the PS2, this has a built in region decoder, and you can play dvd's from anywhere in the world, and cheat on your games if you so please aswell.
Go to www.codejunkies.com (http://www.codejunkies.com) they sell action replays.
If your TV is old or not NTSC then it will come out in black and white, and that's the same for all multi region dvd players.

AFAIK, NEO 4 is the only mod chip that doesn't require a disk swap. Also there are still problems with a lot of these Region beating disk with the new DVDs.
NEO4 also includes Macrovision removal (DVDs play better on Projector / Projection TVs
Forgot to add, if you are going fo rthe "backup" *cough* games route, most copier blokes will only have a CDRW, so DVD games tend to end up on 4 CD's. Verrr annoying http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/mad.gif

DOCWRA - This is called DVD ripping, all they do is take out all the video and intro rubbish, leaving the game complete. ALL games I know of will fit onto a 700MB CD.

Includes a memory card and CDROM. Insert Mem card, and CD, turn on PS2.
Select region you want, insert DVD when prompted et viola. Make sure the PS2 don't get too hot though or it will corrupt the display, loads of artefacts and then completely freak out and stop playing http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

Engine is doing very nicely - Ive done 1500 miles on it and the oil has only just started coloring, so thats a good sign I reckon. Also got uprated cams and a Nismo clutch with it, so cant complain.
