View Full Version : Mmmmmmm....Gatzos
Good ol' Cumbria County Council meeting today to decide whether to get 80 "safety cameras" (they call them) to be installed at specially chosen locations around the county. Lucky old us.

At least up in Cumbria you are more likely to be undisturbed when you prepare a Gatso flambe, it's a litle more difficult down here in the South East.
Personaly I would I would acquire the email address of all the County Councillors from County Hall and remind them that you (and everyone you know)will be taking their voting record on this subject into account at the next CC elections (May ?)and you will ensure said voting record is WELL publicised.
Don't even start me on this subject! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/mad.gif
Danmit, I'm off now!
Gatso's, fcuk that! Why don't they just introduce the Portugese style cameras that turn traffic lights in front of you red if you are speeding so you have to stop? No fine, just encourages people to drive slowly - you speed, you get there slower! - no harm done http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
I wish I had a land rover, or a 2nd hand tank, so I could get a big chain and pull all those fcuking Gatso's down!
Now let me think where they might put them mmmm.......
Nice open flowing roads with good visibility and few hazards/junctions, purely for raising revenue.
A6 over shap
Road to Alston of A66
M6 north jct 36 for safety reasons (must be one of the quietest streches of motorway in the country!)
Most roads into the Lakes, although it's almost impossible to go fast on them for 9 months of the year because of lost/dawdling fecking tourists
Where they won't put them...
A590 to Ulverston
Outside schools
Built up areas
In villages
Me? I'm saving for one of them Geodssy thingys and buying a few tins of petrol for when they do appear.

Of course, you could always paint them bright pink.
David Blunkett told councils that they MUST NOT using camo colours, eg ****y grey, to hide the cameras, nor must they be placed behind hedges etc.
However, most of the councils seem to be taking the view that DB (one of the best politicians about IMHO) won't be seeing them anyway and if he does, they'll give the cash over gladly to a miracle fund...
Damn those councils...
I've never been ahd tho - except in a 30mph at 25mph (never got the ticket, I wonder why...)
I did manage to set one off of the wrong side of the road once tho!

And with good reason! If that's the road I'm thinking of, I had a wicked time along it in my old AX when I as stationed in Barrow for a coupla months! If I came back along it at night (bout 11:30 as my usual) I could keep about 70 average in the AX! And it was cool for overtaking in busier traffic too - soooooo wide!
On the other hand, my boss at the time (a consultant) was talking about the road and how many people had been killed http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif He wasn't very happy with me when I suggested that, still, it was fun to drive along... http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif
With the exception of the A1 north of Morpeth up to Berwick the A590 has the worst death rate of any road in the north. Absolutely lethal. It's either fast overtaking and head-oning into the on-coming or people turning right. The coppers tell me that almost every time they reckon it's a speed misjudgement that clinches the deal.
If ever there was a road crying out for cameras and/or more police it's the A590, especially between Newby Bridge and Ulverston, just last week there was a major pileup (2 lorries and 6 cars http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/eek.gif ) at the juction for Greenodd(again) despite the new fangled strobing cats eyes and god knows how many signs)
I used to fly(120mph+) along this road regularly and thought it was fecking brilliant, then in the space of 2 weeks saw 2 very nasty accidents within 1/10mile, It certainly made me think twice.
This is going back 10 years but since then there have been about 10 serious/fatal crashes a year.
There are lots of cracking roads nearby where you can have loads of fun, but the A590 I treat with serious respect (mainly because of everybody else who doesn't http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/mad.gif )
