Ok

The old man is still trying to sort out his jag for the near future but his old volvo is on its last legs. He has seen a Volvo 850R locally and has asked me to go and see it. It is 30000mile 1996 red manual. The local dealership who know dad well phoned him and said that it is an absolute minter. Dad said he looked at it and they hadn't even done anything to it and he thought it was showroom prepped.

Anyone got anything to say about them. Common faults or problems.

Come on all you ex volvo owners and mechanics. Shine the light.

Cheers

Sure there aint much anyone here can tell you that you don't know already! A friend of my mum had a T-5 and had some bother with the traction control which is essential on these things as you've got 250bhp and FWD. Nothing else ever went wrong 'cept for the cars appetite for tyres! Just make sure it hasn't been used to cart pianos around or been used for towing - I hate seeing these things with towbars.

AFAIK there ain't much to go wrong with a 30K 850. It's not white which means it's not been owned by the old bill!!!! From what I can see it's the best scrabbly car you can get. The old estate 850's looked the bol8ocks racing round Brands Hatch against the other saloon touring cars? http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

If you happen to read this before you see the car it might be worth having a look on www.volvoclub.org.uk (http://www.volvoclub.org.uk) go to the forums and have a look.

I had a hard decision between a S14a and S70T5 chose the Volvo and am chuffed to bits. Shame the Nissan Dealership didn't try to shaft me over a trade in, might have had a 200.

A friend has a T5 and I have to agree with Pol, It has an enormous appetite for tyres, and the friend does not push it that often.
I can only imagine an R being even hungrier for tyres.

Have to say the T5 (estate) is a real Q car and can take an awful lot of "Performance Car" drivers by surprise.

BTW water leaks from poor seals around tailgate is a common complaint
