Probs with my sis's micra r reg 1.0 k11

She phones me at 1am when im busy pi$$ing about on here, and tells me she cant get it started.

So short version is, neither could i.
Im pretty sure its fuel starvation of some sort, but i thought i would post on here to see if anyone has had probs with these before. Might save me a bit of time 2moro when i get round to sorting it.

Basically i hooked it up to my dads micra for charging, it burls over ok but just dont wanna start.Seems alot more willing if u hold the go pedal down.

Full tank of petrol has done 11miles (wondering if it might be dodgy petrol)
She is a bird and has run it "quite low" for the last couple of weeks.
Which i take to mean riding around with the petrol light on.
Anyway, disconnected to bottom hose from the fuel filter and put a rag under it, the stuff that was on the rag was a bit mucky, but not that bad, went to do the same from the top..........
and yes i snapped the top nipple off the fuel filter
Well i didnt think they would put a metal one on the bottom and a plastic one on the top
Yeah, yeah i know i should have checked, but it was dark and cold and................

So ill need to get a new filter 2moro anyway, but im just after any hints incase that dont sort it.

Had a similar problem with our '94 Micra last year. Turned out that the fuse for the fuel injection system was badly corroded so the injectors weren't working properly. On ours, this is in a bank of fuses and relays near the battery. Couldn't tell until we took it out and it fell to pieces. Replaced the fuse and it fired up first time.

We had two problems with a Micra 1.0
1) It stalled shortly after starting. I think this flooded the engine wuite badly. In the end, I took out the air filter and just kept cranking it until it fired.

2) The immobiliser went haywire and we had to have it reset by Nissan. Have you tried a spare key?

Almost certainly flooded, take the fuel pump fuse out and crank it over till it starts -then pop the fuse back in. Nissan to a modified 'cold start loom ' which should cure overfuelling on start up.

Cheers guys, im gonna have a look just now.

I dont think that its the imob kicking in, cos the thing "almost" starts.

Gonna go check this fuse

The older micra's have an anti dieseling valve, which prevents run on went the ignition is killed. It's basically a soleniod which cuts off the fuel to the carb jets, if it is knackered the engine won't tick over but will run at high revs. 'Course this only applies to the carb version.

Its a 98 r reg 16 valves

Dont think its flooded cos then it would want to start without the pedal pressed, wheras this wants to start with the pedal pressed, isnt even interested if its not pressed.
Must be a lack of fuel.

Changed the filter and checked thefuses, but all is ok there.

Any more ideas?

My micra failed to start one time. I'd bounced it around and landed in a ditch.. I don't think the engine was still mounted afterwards :D
