MOT Certificate

I know that when you get a new ticket and your existing certificate has not run out you can have your new one extended by up to a month.

Having bought a car from a garage and agreed that it would have a fresh ticket I have been told that even though the existing MOT runs out in May 2002 they would not be able to extend the new ticket by 30 days.

"We can only do that it the existing MOT runs out within the next 30 days"

they are correct

you can take your car for an mot 1 month before the expiry date on your certificate and if it passes, you can get the same expiry date the following year

therefore 13 months on the new mot
