Where is the best place to nuy components such as chips, hard drives, mother boards etc. i have just got a new digi camera and don't reckon my antique 133mhz processor and 1.5 gb hard drive will cope now.
i want more power!
Also what should I be aiming to get.
I have an ATX midi tower and am currenrtly running a pentium 133MHZ motherboard with ATX motherboard.
any help much appreciated cause I know jack about building PC's.

lookin your local papers or yellow pages for computer fayres.
They usually set up in a local hall of some kind from 10-3.
Go early so you can try your purchase out. Then if theres a problem you can go back before they leave at £pm.
Thats what i do anywayz :)

Pete,
You would be ok with something entry level like an AMD Duron 800mhz system or similar.
If you know what you want then e-mail me the spec and i'll get back to you.
If not then give me a call and we'll talk some more.
Cheers

If ya after bits... try www.scan.co.uk (http://www.scan.co.uk) (today only section) or www.dabs.co.uk (http://www.dabs.co.uk) (used to be their support supervisor.. but dont let that put you off .lol)

IMHO it would be better to forget your existing box and build or pay someone to put together a new one.
If your not looking to run anything more than the usual apps and not a big gaming fan I'd go for something like a Duron, DDR motherboard e.g ECS K7S5A, 256 mb, 20 Gb hard drive, Geforce 2 MX400, and a decent case with 300w PSU. Plus whatever else you might need e.g CDRW or DVD Roms etc.
You should be able to put together a 1Ghz system like that, with CDRW, DVD, and sound for under £400+VAT.

I currently have a intel atx marl motherboard with intel 430hx chipset.
I don't know what the power supply is though. Do i have to get another case and power supply? Can't I just replace the motherboard chip drive and memory like i had intended?

Well, you shouldn't have a problem with that if you are going for an Intel Celeron or P3.
But you should be aware AMD chips have very specific power requirements. If you go for one look for at least a 300w AMD approved PSU. They are also run hot so you need a case with good airflow properties.

I build the odd PC for anyone that wants one and I'm pretty damn sure you can't get bits cheaper than here:
www.cclcomputers.co.uk (http://www.cclcomputers.co.uk)
I I were you I'd Ebay your mptherboard/chip/ram/hard drive as a package and get all new stuff. Theres a good demand for that sort of stuff, I recently sold a p75 with an AT mother board, 32meg of ram and a hard disk(seriously antiquated sheite) for £27.
Like the man said if you already have the case, monitor, keyboard & mouse then £450-£500 should get you a fairly stonking PC.
If you want any moody software or games (can get pretty much anything) drop me a line.

I can get my hands on a full system running 1.7ghz Athlon if you're interested for £699.
My Duron system has started to show some instability issues now, not helped in the slightest by the most ridiculous raid chipset on the planet and the effect on Win2k it has. The P4's running great, which almost, almost tempted me to switch to intel for the other pc's in future, but I'm gonna try an Athlon chip next as it would save a shedload of money not having to buy P4-compat ram / motherboard / case.
I like the way that high spec 3D graphics cards cost somewhat MORE than the CPU's now .. that's really kinda retarded in a way.
