Hi there, just another hassle to report...I got my Rover 75 LHD over here to Luxembourg, took me about 4 hours from Calais , but the next day I drove to work and during the lunch break the engine went bang , and loads of fog from the tailpipe and the engine sounds like a bag of nails and stops...Under the bonnet is large cast alloy chunks and loads of oil sprayed on the engine bay and the floor is a large puddle of oil and water. The car has been towed to a local Rover agent, but I just wanted some ideas to what may be the problem , oil pump/cracked block etc , and if anyone knows how to deal with warranty work ( 1 years manufacturers expires in 1 week) and how to get it sorted quickly....any ideas/help :) The car is 2003 June , 3500kms bought in UK from main Rover agent

Yeah , thanks for the advice , but I have the car now and its 500 miles from home so not much I can do. It was bought as it was cheap big car , as finding a LHD sx was hard and impossible to buy cars when you dont live in the country....I just want to get it back on the road , I have only had the car for about 7 days and 500 miles ! :wack:

I thought all Rovers had a 3 year warranty ? EDIT - doh, didn't read it properly. Would still expect remainder of 3 year warranty to be honoured though.

The main dealer should be able to sort out the warranty claim, but I wouldn't expect it to be quick (not in the UK anyway).

I would expect a hire car whilst it was being repaired too.

HTH ?
Daniel.

Well being at work when the car was collected I havent been to the garage who has the car. Am I entitled to a courtesy car ? even though I am in Luxembourg , who should I shout at to get something done a bit quiker about it ?

If you bought it from a main dealer with a Rover warranty I would demand a courtesy car (probably be a metro though :p)

Your main dealer in Luxembourg should sort it IMO.

If it's a K-series engine, then they're notorious for head gasket failure. Can't see how that would blow the engine to pieces though  . Cast alloy chunks would say to me 'unrepairable engine, ditch it'.

I am hoping the worst really , dont want a half bad engine being rebuilt and being a possible bad *egg*

I know that CAR magazine's long-term test 2.5 V6 MG ZT (same thing) went bang for no apparent reason. Don't think they ever found out what had actually failed.

That sounds promising , what annoys me most is thatI even posted on here a few weeks ago saying new cars give you assured reliable motoring and as it happens my car was only like 2000miles and it went bang. I called the garage and they wont give me a courtesy car and they havent time to look at it until at least next week ! :furious: :furious: :furious:

If its a manufacturer's warranty it won't cost the dealership anything to provide a courtesy car as all cost will be reclaimed from Rover. If you get no joy from the local dealership, phone MG Rover in the UK and see if they are any better, if no joy from them phone the supplying dealership and quote the sale of goods act and ask them if they want to be in a position to refund your money and then recover the car from the continent.

Good Luck

Unfortunatley thats a Rover for you.

We have/had 5 Rover Company Cars 25/45's/800's and they have all been majorly crap. Poor build quality, always going wrong even cars with only 10,000 on the clock.

Golders hates Rovers, Fiats, Citroens etc.

Cheers for the ideas Ben, I have called MG Rover and they have logged the breakdown, still no help yet on a courtesy car, but they are going to contact the dealer where the car is. Hopefully get something sorted after the weekend.. 2 rules I have learnt - dont sell your reliable car just to get LHD , and dont trust British made cars more than 5 mins from home.
