My dad's thinking of getting one as his daily hack(the alternative is a new style Skoda Octavia). Personally I think he should go for the Skoda but I need some hard facts about the Audi as "It's shite" won't cut it with him.

I cant offer anything more constructive than......

You guessed it..........

Its...................

Slightly higher specced than the Skoda I think - more buttons to press etc but otherwise just a rip off compared to it.

Very economical, which in this day and age is no bad thing. >60mpg or so I believe?

Did he ever manage to get rid of that Reliant (http://www.sxoc.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=27543&highlight=robin) you bought him as a birthday present? :D

His very words. :(

It may be economical but that's offset by the huge premium you pay compared to the better equipped, bigger, diesel Skoda.

Skoda/Audi are part of the same VW group of course - so mocking one is pretty much mocking the other

Never driven the A2 but my ol' man had a top spec A4 V6. Personally I was pretty disappointed with the drive of it(especially steering feel) and the interior finish. Other than that, they're well engineered as you'd expect and the engine was a bit of a belter :)

this always comes up trumps for me:

He 'donated' it to a little old lady at church whose car blew up. Ungrateful huh

Still, it made way on his drive for me to be able to store a Merc there :D

Apparently it wobbles when the window wiper is on apparently - or is that just what I keep hearing?

Love Audis - though it would have to be an A4, A6 or A8 for me :smitten:

Crappy view out of the back makes for difficult reversing

It is true I do have one

What does your dad want out of a car?

On the plus side first of all yes excellent mpg, you'll struggle to find better
All aluminium space frame shell
Suprisingly nippy and with a diesel engine also suprisingly tourquey, will happily sit doing 90 on the motorway and mine has alledgedly been upto an indicated 120mph (book top end is 107) and they go round corners better than youd expect
Quality build, as youd expect from and Audi
tax only £80 per year
25 000 mile service intervals
Plenty of space inside, comfortably seats four and I can put my boxer dog in the luggage section at the back and still store a load of walking gear in the further storage space underneath, the back seat can either fold flat more or less level with the false floor section in the boot or along with the false floor section can completely out giving loads of space
ABS, lots of airbags, traction control, electronic stability control and from what I've read seems to hold up very well in crashes

Not so good points
Visibility is bad, rear view is obscured because of the curved window and there is no rear washwipe, also the plilars at the front are thick
It is an expensive car for its size, dont buy new, mine would have been over 16k new but at 16 months old and with 7.5k on the clock I paid 11k
Car does wobble a bit with the wiper..and theres is only 1 wiper, but it does a good job
Ride is quite harsh (but this helps with the twisties)

I really like the car and fully intend to buy another when I've put enough miles on mine. mine is the 75bhp diesel but there is a new 90bhp diesel both according to official figures do about 67mpg, with my driving its nearer to 55.

Excellent stuff Mart, cheers. He's looking at the 90bhp Diesel. I shall pass on your comments to him. He's going for a test drive in one this aft.

My dad walked into the Skoda dealer for a little Diesel thing... loved it, then made the mistake of going past the VW dealer and trying a Golf... prefered that, and ended up with a 120bhp A4 Avant, all the toys, in Dark metallic blue, 17"'s cream leather... took nearly 3 months to turn up, but its lovely... :D
