Slow as!!

Any of you computer wizz guys out there help me??
I'm running xp on my comp not had it for that long, had xp on when i got it, was ok til i got a cd-rw. Fitted the cd-rw as advised and now the comp is really really really slow at doin stuff??
e.g. takes ages to boot when first turned on?
Takes ages to display properties for stuff?
Crashes when tryin to stand by??
Any ideas??

If it's an IDE (ATAPI) CDRW, do you have it on the sam echannel as the Hard Disk?

That would slow it down.

The hard drive is on the same ide as the cd rom, hard drive master, cd rom slave, and the cdrw is on ide 2 by itself! This is how i was told to an the instructions said to do it??? http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/confused.gif

Could be the software you got with the drive. XP is pretty new, and a lot of software hasn't caught up. If you installed any software like DirectCD or Easy CD Creator you should uninstall them and check or check on the website to see if there's any patches/upgrades for XP use.
