View Full Version : OK So I Have A Plan...

Hey all,

I've got a plan to get another Japanese performance magazine off the ground within the next 10 months as I don't like the current offerings.
I'm intending to steer away from the Scooby angle so beloved by Banzai/J.P.C and head off into the more uncharted territory of Starions/200s/300s etc/lesser known performers.

This will need plenty of planning of course, maybe even the odd feasibility study and other such exciting things so I am not promising anything concrete.

However, in a market already near saturation point with modded/straight/classic mags I would need to be producing something different, something that would capture a new breed of magazine reader. Has anyone here ever read a copy of Wallpaper*, Creative Review or (to be much lesser degree) The Face? If so, you'll see the style, paper quality etc I envisage. It would have to be lifestyle, chic and modern - not the usual "my downpipe's bigger than yours" scenario that seems to dominate the current formats. I can see it in my head already - different is the word...

The point of this random-ish waffle is to find out from all of you what you would want to see in such a publication, where you think that the current market share could be improved, plus of course to track down as many vehicles as possible (I would need 6 months worth of feature cars ready-written before I could even think of heading to the bank for a loan...). At the current plan I would probably be heading for 4 or 6 issues a year - yes I know that it isn't a lot, but a) I couldn't do it full time until it took off and b) the market would have to be tested and if this proved a success then the frequency could be stepped up.

So, any ideas, comments, requests, suggestions, free money or anything else would be welcomed like a tax free £1million quid donation and you can get me at:

Take it easy - except on the straights!

Red 2.0 EX Intercooled Turbo on a 'D' plate.

What kinda stuff do you need to know?
In fact, there is a Jap car meet in Bolney on 16th March - why not come along, I'll be there and so will 100s of GTOs, scoobies and everything... I'm trying to persuade more Starions to come as well...

Let me know how I can help!

Starions are cool, the narrow bodies are a bit retro, but the widebodied ones are sweet http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/tongue.gif

A mate of mine had a 2.6 Widebody running 22psi and over 300BHP at the wheels... was a bit of a monster for an E plate car!

My Mates got one which he races in the Toyo challenge, its getting on for 400bhp, is kitted out with a T3 hybrid, RS 500 IC, and best of all its got anti lag http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Retro? I should hope so... (this from a man who just spent £75 on a 60's chrome ceiling light)
The 2.0 in standard guise is faster and torquier than the 2.6 and handles better as well.
And they are cheaper to spec up to the hilt, needing less mods to produce the power http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, why don't you get your Starion mates to come along as well???
Stu - any chance of an email addy for your racing mate???

Any more ideas for the magazine?

Not sure of his e-mail - sorry http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif

He occasionally posts on Startion-turbo.co.uk if thats anyhelp, maybe put a post up for something like "FAO Anyone racing a Starion?"

His is the 2.0l as well, though I think the current engine in it, is full of HKS bits http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I know Mark Biffin.

I kinda grew up with him, he was a couple of years older & he lived down my road.
Small old world isn't it?

He's the chairman of the Starioun club or something now isn't he?

Jezz.

His Name is Neil Philpotts, not sure he gets much net access so his posts are few and far between I think.

OK, so maybe Paul from Neighbours didnt help them.

Cool in a Starion is when you have one with 400bhp, and its going very sideways, in a controlled - ish http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif sort of manner at 90 http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
