Hey all,
I've got a plan to get another Japanese performance magazine off the ground within the next 10 months as I don't like the current offerings.
I'm intending to steer away from the Scooby angle so beloved by Banzai/J.P.C and head off into the more uncharted territory of Starions/200s/300s etc/lesser known performers.
This will need plenty of planning of course, maybe even the odd feasibility study and other such exciting things so I am not promising anything concrete.
However, in a market already near saturation point with modded/straight/classic mags I would need to be producing something different, something that would capture a new breed of magazine reader. Has anyone here ever read a copy of Wallpaper*, Creative Review or (to be much lesser degree) The Face? If so, you'll see the style, paper quality etc I envisage. It would have to be lifestyle, chic and modern - not the usual "my downpipe's bigger than yours" scenario that seems to dominate the current formats. I can see it in my head already - different is the word...
The point of this random-ish waffle is to find out from all of you what you would want to see in such a publication, where you think that the current market share could be improved, plus of course to track down as many vehicles as possible (I would need 6 months worth of feature cars ready-written before I could even think of heading to the bank for a loan...). At the current plan I would probably be heading for 4 or 6 issues a year - yes I know that it isn't a lot, but a) I couldn't do it full time until it took off and b) the market would have to be tested and if this proved a success then the frequency could be stepped up.
So, any ideas, comments, requests, suggestions, free money or anything else would be welcomed like a tax free £1million quid donation and you can get me at:
