I know there've been a few threads asking about insurance before. I'm hunting around to insure my S14 which I collect at the weekend. Some details:
Age: 30
NCB: 9+
Licence held: 12 years
points/convictions: none
Car stored on road.
So far, I've got the following (worth printing) for fully comp:
AA Insurance Search ~ £900++
Axa Motor Insurance ~ £690
QuoteLine Direct ~ £620
Tesco ~ £570
As mentioned elsewhere, Tesco seem a good bet.
Any other worthy mentions ?
Michael.

tesco is whom I had mentioned earlier.
They beat all my quotes, but then my existing insurers matched it.
Most likely in order to keep my existing business (like they have done for the past 5+ years)
Highway Motor Policies could be another bet

Just tried.
They both give very similar results. The initial quote is ~£540 for 12 months, £425 for 10 months accelerator... Dodgy.
Final quote is ~£585.
Michael.

Guess what? Its cheaper for me to insure a 200SX then it is a Starlet GT Turbo, according to Elephant.co.uk.
20 year old w/ 1yrs NCB = £1400 TPFT for a 93 200SX...
Makes loads of sense... Not.

Well, I went with Tesco finally.
I got it down to £550, and then back up to 585 to pay by monthly direct debit (8% charge - some companies charge 24% for monthly !!).
I'm a bit disappointed in the amount of info they actually provide online, but I'm sure if there's anything wrong, I'll sort it out when the paperwork arrives. They don't mention anywhere, the compulsory excess for example. You can up the voluntary, but you don't get the total anywhere.
If anyone's interested, I'll post the details when I get them.
BTW, my existing insurer (Norwich Union Direct) wanted £990, and said there was no way they could even get close the the Tesco quote.
I bet it all changes again next year.
Michael.

I’m with Tesco's, Im only 23 living in central London with driving convictions, Tesco's don’t seem to give a toss what you drive as long as its on there computers. I’m paying £1500 on my S14a 00, The next nearest was Elephant at £2911 !!!!!!!!!, They also insured my mate Pulsar GTIR import no problem. I was also concerned about the lack of info on their site but the bumf they send in the post is far more informative.

Thanks for that. I can relax a bit more now !
Steve,
tell them you're no longer living with driving convictions (ie they've moved out).
Might get your Council Tax down a bit!

Even though I'm with Tesco now, I tried Eagle Star, as mentioned in the other thread.
I'm not with a known company, and I came out at £940. Not even in close running really.
Tesco are still the best for now.
Michael.

Blimey...all that talk of Tesco made me get a quote off their website...and my £374 from Eagle Star pales into insignificance against Tesco's £365.40 INCLUDING a protected NCB!!!!!

Hi Mike...I'm Dalston way. Are you the Mike who's NTOC no.0772?
Mine's a red J-plate S13. Unmodded with customary cream-crackered aerial and unco-operative odometer.
