Just bought a new house, with gold fish in a pond in the garden. Do they need feeding, with what and how often?

This time of year it's best to poor oil into the water to stop it freezing over and killikng them http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
NO DONT!!! you can get these pellet things from petshops, or to freak your misses out get some maggots and treat them. like tricky said it's best to wait untill it turns warmer or youll just cloud the water with un eaten crap.

Dai, how are the goldfish doing? :D

Dai,

Once the water temp is below about 13°C (ie now! :) ) you're not really supposed to feed them, altho you can buy wheatgerm food for the winter - more easily digested and less residue.

I feed mine about once a month over winter, and doesn't seem to do them any harm :D

One thing you should know that if the pond freezes, don't break the ice - use hot water or something to melt it instead, cos breaking the ice shocks the fish :)

Have had a pond for about 6 years now, so know a bit...get in touch if you have problems lol

Given how long ago this thread was started, most of the afore-mentioned fish have probably been flushed some time ago :(

 You wouldn't catch me going out naked to feed the fish at this time of year!!

Wait till the summer ;):D

Just leave a football or similar floating in the water and then when it's frozen, gently pour water over this then remove, voila, hole to feed them through :)

are there actually any fish in this pond?
the pre-existance of a pond and water doesn't prove the preexistance of fish...
Or does it?
